Just like Hitler taking country after country. The closer this gets to Lviv, I hope the allies reevaluate their stance. All Putin is doing right now is upping the ante.

And I’ll just leave this here, since it dovetails with the OP: “The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men should do nothing.”

There is war, and then there is just war — as in “righteous,” not “only.”

people don't "get it" that Putin will go beyond Ukraine and we will have to fight him. Given the nature of war and it's consequences, I would not be too eager to hurry it along.

But, more than previous wars, this one is much more than just fighting on land, air, and sea with physical weapons. It is psychological and intellectual. Wars always have those elements in developing strategies. But they are much more significant in today's world of nuclear weapons and cyber space. Rushing off to fight conventionally as in the past can be suicidal. Planning, flexibility, and creativity are crucial.

You can be sure that nukes will be involved in some way, large or small. While we wait for what is to come, get prepared for it. Water, canned foods, a mechanical can opener, blankets, flashlights and batteries, medicines, water purifiers, candles and matches/lighters, and a short wave radio with plenty of batteries might be good investments right now. Plus cash on hand and networking connections with others.

It’s hard to separate emotion from what I want to write.

Yes, I’ve come to the conclusion too that we are only delaying the inevitable. I just watched Blinken with the Polish official and he kept stressing the defense of Polish-Ukrainian border. It doesn’t have to be the dropping of a bomb — Putin’s capture of the nuclear sites will be justnas deadly.

I agree, too, that it’s time to start having serious discussions about how to prepare for a nuclear war. Rather have a plan in place and be seen as an alarmist, than not have one and have to deal with it in real time.

an exchange of several nuclear warheads. Risky, and unpredictable outcomes. Which is why we don't engage militarily.

US Air Force

Second largest air force in the world:
US Navy

Third largest Air Force in the world:
US Army

If this is anywhere close to true…hardly underfunded.

Wars have a bad habit of getting out of hand. If truth is the first victim of war, then plans and expectations are the second.

18. No point in asking what is the point

There is no point in asking what is the point of having a ridiculously expensive army that just stands by.

That would be a reasonable question if the world order and the fog of war functioned in a logical way. Unfortunately, it doesn't. We have the world we have and not the world, the situation, or the logical geopolitical situation we would like. As such, we must be clear-eyed about operating within the confines of what is and that means not using our expensive military might when it brings with it the threat of nuclear war aka untold death worldwide, untold future sickness, and untold ecological damage to earth, the home that gives us life.

Yes, it sucks, but bringing our full might to bear will only increase the suffering. It is one of those tragic situations where there is no wholly good choice. We must look soberly at reality as it is, rather than as how we would like it to be and that means causing the least damage. A harm reduction strategy.

Yes, it sucks that we cannot stop a petty little shit, but to do so to our full capacity could cause WWIII. 634-5787, I feel your sentiments, believe me. This post is not a criticism of you, but a reminder to us all - Though we feel powerless to stop this atrocity, we have to be careful to be clear-eyed despite the terrible powerlessness we feel. This is the world we have right now like it or not. Many of us feel powerless and in many ways we are. Let's do what we can and take care with our words and actions so the world can live to fight another day for the peace and justice we hold dear.
