Russia oligarchs: The mega-rich men facing global sanctions

The UK, EU, and US governments have responded to Russia's invasion of Ukraine with devastating sanctions against the billionaire businessmen perceived to be in President Vladimir Putin's inner circle.

Mr Putin has warned his allies for many years they should protect themselves against such measures, particularly as relations soured with the US and EU countries after the annexation of Crimea.

But while some of those closest to him took his advice and remained invested in Russia, others kept their money in palatial properties overseas and football clubs, and their companies remained listed on foreign stock exchanges.

They now find themselves scrambling to hold on to their assets amid the most comprehensive economic penalties imposed in the modern era. Here's what we know about some of them.

there are a bunch of unknown oligarchs still in Russia who may or may not get on board, and whether the west can sanction them remains to be seen.

...that it will take years to find it.

The Tories are talking tough, but they are embedded in Putin's sludge as well.

Oh well, every little yacht helps...

For if the are preserved, they will end up in another Oligarch's hands, and an American, French or German Oligarch is no better or worse than their Russian brothers. Greed recognizes no lines on a map. Another bright side to destroying one instead of just changing the paperwork, is that they create hundreds of jobs to replace. Jobs that honest workers use to feed their families.

For every building that is destroyed in Ukraine, some Russian billionaire should have a property taken from him in such a way that no amount of legal wrangling will ever bring it back. I know that a lot of people would hate to see such a "waste" but I would suggest that money is not the only factor at play; better justice than cash.
