The Biden administration is walking a tightrope in its relationship with India over New Delhis refusal to join the U.S. in its campaign to isolate Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Administration officials this week said they have for months been in a pitched battle to convince India, the worlds largest democracy, to join the U.S., EU and other democratic nations in pushing back against Putins authoritarian ambitions. Those efforts have only stepped up since Putin launched an invasion of Ukraine last week.
While the U.S. and India have deepened relations over the past nearly two decades, New Delhi has relied for generations on Moscows delivery of military assistance and views Russia as its key ally against Chinas attempts at further dominating the region.

(17,308 posts)I can see both sides of their story. However, if Russia has become strongly connected to China, where will that leave India?

(89,182 posts)And it goes back to US and the west funding Pakistan during the cold war. This was done to fight the Soviets in Afghanistan but terror attacks directed at India also. And this happened again after 9-11.
Plus China is close to Pakistan. Most of ndia's neighbors are almost like Chinese colonies .
What the US and others need to do is make the case to India that this is about stopping Putin and not about being anti Russia. Bring up how many Russians are also protesting what Putin is doing.

(578 posts)this is happening. My father told me back in the day during the cold war America decided to be an ally of Pakistan. Pakistan is India's number 1 sworn enemy. This rubbed India the wrong way and they became an ally of Russia. Russia throughout the cold war and now has always had India's back while that hasn't been the case with the US. This is why it's very hard for India to turn against Russia.
