(13,870 posts)World central kitchen, the idea of Chef Jose' Andres goes around the world to areas in need and FEEDS PEOPLE. 100% of the donations go to feeding people. Andres pays the expenses himself. They are on the Polish Border feeding refugees fleeing the fighting. https://donate.wck.org/give/236738/#!/donation/checkout
Doctors without Borders is in border countries and Ukraine attending to the wounded. They have a 90% rating from CharityNavigator.. 90% of the money goes to helping the people. A very high number from what I have gathered.

Ukraine is undergoing barbaric assault. Help us provide humanitarian support to those who are fighting for freedom and their lives.
The September 11 Foundation board has made a decision to provide humanitarian support to the women and children fleeing Ukraine as well as all refugees leaving the country.
Where possible we will provide medical aid, food, housing assistance, etc. through our Guidestar Gold Seal approved nonprofit.
Our team has extensive experience responding to disaster situations and dealing with multicasaulty events of this nature whether from natural or in this case, man made, disasters.
Your donation is FULLY tax deductible and a gift receipt will be sent for tax purposes.
Help us right this terrible wrong with any contribution amount. It all helps and will all go to this effort.

Some organizations enable people to "adopt" a displaced family for whatever can be afforded.

Today, I am a proud Ukrainian. While my family came to the United States in 1991, I was born in Chernivtsi, Ukraine in 1983. Ukrainians are proud and brave people who deserve our help in their time of need. This unjust attack on Ukraine and humanity at large is devastating and the Ukrainian people need our support. Our family is starting this fund to help provide immediate support and we will be matching up to $3 million dollars.
Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher's are organizing this fundraiser and matching up to 3 million of their own money! The link below.

(1,402 posts)Just don't want to violate any DU rules. I see that Ashton Kutcher has a GoFundMe and will match up to $3 mil. It would be great to get something going immediately. If you or anyone have any suggestions, it would be appreciated.

(1,402 posts)In the last few minutes I became aware of an org. called IRC - International Rescue Committee. According to the website they are set up to make emergency donations to Ukraine. I'm an avid visitor to DU and I am aware of Omaha Steve. Do you have any suggestions as to how I could approach him or get this accomplished.
Sogo
(4,986 posts)but there is an email system, which could probably get you connected with him. Look at the top right for all the menu items....

(1,402 posts)Below is a cut and paste from the IRC website. I've never done anything like this on DU. How do you think I can contact Omaha Steve?
Over 1 million refugees have been forced to flee Ukraine. The IRC is on the ground in Poland supporting displaced children and families with vital supplies. Your gift will help us provide food, medical care and emergency support services to refugee families in countries like Ukraine, Afghanistan, Syria, and Yemen. Please give what you can today.
The also have a tab for making donations

(4,986 posts)If you click on that, there is a box to enter another poster's name to send a message to. That's as much as I can help....

(51,567 posts)Description
Help provide nourishing meals and critical supplies to people and animals fleeing from attack in Ukraine.
On February 24, Russia launched a large-scale military operation on neighboring Ukraine, invading the country on several fronts. The UN estimates that over one million Ukrainians have fled since the attack began, with that number expected to rise dramatically. The journey is daunting, with many Ukrainian families traveling for days without food. They need your help now.
As the situation continues to evolve, Greater Good Charities is in contact with partners who are responding and working on the ground. Initially, we are partnering with World Central Kitchen and The International Fund for Animal Welfare to help people and pets affected by this crisis, with fresh food and necessary suppliesand were ready to expand our support.
World Central Kitchen is working with local restaurants, caterers, and food trucks in the region to provide nourishing meals at border crossings, shelters, and other refugee communities. Their response has grown rapidly from serving hot, nourishing meals...
Greater Good Charities is also working with the International Fund for Animal Welfare and other partners on the ground to provide cash grants and supplies to support work to help animals impacted by the crisis.
You can help. Your emergency donation will go directly to aid those in need in Ukraine, providing nutritious meals and more at this time of dire need. Give today.
