Pooty Poot warns Ukraine might lose statehood 'if they continue doing what they are doing'

Russian President Vladimir Putin in a meeting on Saturday warned that Ukraine might lose its statehood "if they continue doing what they are doing," The New York Times reported.

"The current leadership needs to understand that if they continue doing what they are doing, they risk the future of Ukrainian statehood," Putin said in Moscow, according to the newspaper. "If that happens, they will have to be blamed for that."

During his meeting he also likened sanctions imposed by Western countries toward Russia as "akin to a declaration of war," the Times reported, demonstrating an escalation in rhetoric by Russia amid its invasion of Ukraine.

Those remarks were rebuked by some U.S. lawmakers.

Might as well make a no fly zone. Or be a coward and pull stop all support to Ukraine and lift all sanctions.

Putin's barking mad, but probably hasn't made the decision to nuke anybody or anything. Mostly that's general talk on his side.

Putin "gets" nuclear deterrence. We're being deterred.

We tried to deter him, and that didn't work. He didn't blink; and he's furious that he's being disobeyed. I've known a lot of people like him--be nice, iron fist in a velvet glove kind of crap, they'll come around to "my" sanity. And eventually something is a step to far, he has a bad night sleep, he had a boo-boo when zipping up his pants after taking a leak, whatever. The "tolerance" snaps and it's warfare, not always rational.

When that happens, others around the idjit, supporters and sycophants and acolytes, very often have a moment of clarity where they realize they should go from supporting to humoring and then sidetracking him.

Maybe get Disney to use old digitized footage of Putin so he continues to give new, videotaped speeches saying more reasonable things for the next 3 years before he magnanimously retires.

The sanctions are hurting, and Putin is pissed. Putin is threatening to escalate matters due to the sanctions.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said Saturday that sanctions and pushback from leaders in Ukraine and around the world in response to the invasion are risking “the future of Ukrainian statehood.”

At a meeting in Moscow, Putin claimed that the wide-ranging, extensive sanctions leveled by the United States and the international community in response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine amount to “a means of fighting against Russia.”

“These sanctions that are being imposed are like the declaration of war,” he said.....

The worldwide enforcement of extensive sanctions against Russia has intensified in recent days. The Russian economy in particular has taken the brunt of the international community’s actions. The value of the ruble plummeted to less than 1 U.S. cent this week, and the Russian government is still unable to tap into a large portion of its $640 billion in Central Bank reserves, a lifeline that would skirt the impact of global sanctions.
