Putin likens sanctions to a 'declaration of war,' says invasion pushback risks future of Ukrainian s

The sanctions are hurting, and Putin is pissed. Putin is threatening to escalate matters due to the sanctions.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said Saturday that sanctions and pushback from leaders in Ukraine and around the world in response to the invasion are risking “the future of Ukrainian statehood.”

At a meeting in Moscow, Putin claimed that the wide-ranging, extensive sanctions leveled by the United States and the international community in response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine amount to “a means of fighting against Russia.”

“These sanctions that are being imposed are like the declaration of war,” he said.....

The worldwide enforcement of extensive sanctions against Russia has intensified in recent days. The Russian economy in particular has taken the brunt of the international community’s actions. The value of the ruble plummeted to less than 1 U.S. cent this week, and the Russian government is still unable to tap into a large portion of its $640 billion in Central Bank reserves, a lifeline that would skirt the impact of global sanctions.

Notice he didn't say it was a declaration of war, he said it's like a declaration of war.

Interesting, is he being careful in choosing his words for fear of NATO responding to a declaration of war?

What a weakling. He will never win this war. So he threatens NATO. He really can’t fight NATO. In a conventional war, his army and air force will get blown to bits. So he threatens with weapons he can never use. It’s like he only has a queen on the chessboard against six pawns, two rooks, a queen, and two knights. Regarding NATO, all he has are bluffs. He can’t even win over Ukraine, and he thinks he can defeat NATO?

His generals should be dragging him off to Siberia, where he can’t hurt anyone. As it is, Putin will likely see the end of his rule in months, not years. If not, he will destroy both Ukraine and Russia.

A lot of people are mocking sanctions as weak & ineffective and want more aggressive things like a no-fly zone or bombing Russia's stalled convoy (sooooooo tempting!) that we can't do right now. But it looks like the sanctions are having a strong effect, which may be a useful bargaining chip.

saw how much success his orange puppet had with projection and big lies even with a free press tracking and reporting them. He knew he could do even better with his own totalitarian propaganda network and little or no domestic competition for the "truth."
