A trucker convoy that has embraced a pro-Putin conspiracy theory is heading for Washington, D.C. and the White House.

NBC News reported:

While some group members have admonished Russian President Vladimir Putin for the invasion, QAnon and anti-vaccine contingents within the groups have seized on a false conspiracy theory that the war is a cover for a military operation backed by former President Donald Trump in Ukraine.

The conspiracy theory, which is baseless and has roots in QAnon mythology, alleges that Trump and Putin are secretly working together to stop bioweapons from being made by Dr. Anthony Fauci in Ukraine and that shelling in Ukraine has targeted the secret laboratories. Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, has emerged in the past year as a main target for far-right conspiracy theories.

In the conspiracy theory, Trump and Putin are the good guys who are trying to stop the secret bioweapons being made by 80 something-year-old Dr. Fauci.

... equals 6.8 miles. As the crow flies.

So you are correct, and I am wrong.

So, if you can pick a point "2 miles from the beltway" that would create the most trouble if trucks converged there, I'd like to know it. Just curious and DU mail could be used, but it's cool. We'll see what happens.

28. Thanks. I'm not trying to pick on you, but in the last few days, I've read a lot of things online

that are just flat out imagined.

The last I heard, the truckers were out in Hagerstown, which is 70 miles more or less from here. They said they might get within two miles of the Beltway. I don't know. I've been recycling papers all day, and I haven't had the radio on. WTOP keeps up with this sort of thing. They're the all-news radio station in DC, and if the truckers start heading this way, WTOP will let us know.

struggle4progress linked to an article there that said the truckers are not leaving Hagerstown for DC, so that's that. If WTOP confirms the story, then it's believable.

If you read a story that says truckers have surrounded the White House or the Capitol or the Washington Redskins, if WTOP hasn't confirmed it, then it's not true.

As for PoliticsUSA, they seem to invent whatever generates the most views, truthful or not. It and rawstory should be banned as news sources at DU.

What to make of this? Well, the truckers are staying in Hagerstown tonight. Tomorrow, they might head to "the D.C. region." If they reach Germantown or Gaithersburg, Maryland, that's in "the D.C. region." But they'd still be miles away from downtown DC, which is where the White House is. I'm in "the D.C. region," but it would take me a while to get to the White House.

By Google traffic, there seems to be a knot of congestion near Hagerstown on Rt 40 by Hafer's Gunsmithing and Zach Greenlee's Trackside Steak and Hagerstown Speedway.

I too had heard that the assault on DC roadways would occur tomorrow, not today.

I don't need to see what it's like getting to Ocean City ... Try this one. I-70 runs through Maryland from north of Hancock to Baltimore. It's the Interstate that the truckers would take were they to head east from Hagerstown toward Frederick, which is on the way to DC. At Frederick, I-270 splits off from I-70. I-70 heads east to Baltimore, and I-270 heads southeast to DC.
