They protect their own at all costs.

(6,265 posts)has always been a reality. High profile cases are now sometimes proven against racist and/or corrupt cops. Yet exponentially in the number of cases in all cities and burgs, a rare phenomenon even with proof of culpability in cop corruption, even murder. As I have experienced.

(5,219 posts)Generalizations. SOME officers are bad and should not serve. Absolutely! But there are a lot of good, caring professionals who do serve and protect.

(12,640 posts)And despite the number of good, caring individuals, police are refusing to police themselves. It might be the Union's, it might be the "benevolent organizations", but police culture has devolved from the "protect and serve the community" people expect from shows like Adam-12 and Dragnet, to "protect and serve ourselves" super warriors too many are trying to act like today.
Until bullies and racist cops are replaced by violence de-escalators and community service workers who also work at reducing crime and building trust, you're going to continue to see people stating ACAB.
Bad cops are hiding behind the good police, and the good police don't seem to be doing anything about it, for whatever reason.

The SWAT team used to be an extreme. Now the lowliest armed tax collector, uh, I mean "traffic cop", is outfitted like a stormtrooper. And they're all mentally itching to use that stuff.

Yes, I get that police workplace culture demands that they remain silent and supportive no matter what, but honestly, all those "good cops" are complicit when they turn a blind eye to abuses.

(4,552 posts)The thing is there are a lot of bad cops. It is not in our best interest to trust any police.
Video all police. Do not answer questions. Do not open your door. Ask Anjanette Williams if she trusts cops and would open her door.
Video has changed policing for ever.

They all say the same thing: Shutup and when you are done shuting up then shutup shutting up. The police are not trying to help you. It is not a social call.
