The Howler Monkey's administration tried to close it in 2020, but after seeing the discontent that that engendering within "his" voters, he tweeted that its funding would not be cut and everyone involved reversed course and blamed faceless, unnamed byoooraucrats for the whole "misunderstanding".

The declaration by Michael Pack, who heads the U.S. Agency for Global Media, has raised fears among current and former officials that he is seeking to reshape VOA and its sister agencies into promotional arms for President Trump, who appointed Pack.
They saw irony in the notion that the agencies whose broadcasts are designed to counter foreign governments official censorship and propaganda would themselves be subjected to oversight and potential censorship by a political appointee of the U.S. government.
