Bennett said that even if the chances are not great, he sees it as Israels moral responsibility to make every attempt, because he has good contacts with both sides of the conflict.

Puttin is a madman, a dictator, and has a lot of nefarious plans and ideas. He doesn't trust anyone, because he isn't trustworthy. And this invasion has really hurt him by hurting the oligarchs and his reputation (whatever reputation he had as a world leader).
If Israel can make headway, negotiate, I say good for them. The Knesset condemned Russia, but Bennett is trying to stay on Putin's good side. He doesn't really have a good side; but negotiating with crazed autocrats during a military conflict is at least trying to stop the violence.
Israel is in a unique position to be able to negotiate, because it is independent, aligned with but not part of the European block or the US, and many Jews live in Ukraine.
Not an easy task to take on, for many reasons. But I applaud them for trying.
And I pray they succeed. Wouldn't that be something!
