Over 11,000 Russian troops have been killed in the 10 days since the invasion of Ukraine began, the Ukrainian military's general staff said on Sunday, according to Reuters.
On Wednesday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky put the number of dead Russian soldiers at 6,000.
Neither report included Ukrainian military casualties.
Russian Maj. Gen. Igor Konashenkov said Wednesday that 498 Russian troops had been killed and 1,597 wounded. He also gave casualty numbers for the Ukrainian military: more than 2,870 killed, around 3,700 wounded, and 572 captured.

I imagine the truth is somewhere in between. Russia didn't bring their mobile crematories for nothing.

(6,477 posts)I'd divide that number by 2 or 3.
Still shocking. That's WWII numbers for ten days and minimal progress.

(36,784 posts)Super duper news about Ukraine and other events.
The first telling of any great newsworthy event can be a wild guess or wild exaggeration with great optimism / pessimism, depending on the agenda of the reporting agent. War. School shootings. Mass disasters. It usually takes about 3 days to start getting any accuracy. Then it takes a while longer to get anything close to the whole story.
Other articles have said that Russia is explaining the deaths to the folks back home as 'training accidents'.
