I've already done the Google, and it wasn't much help.
If there's a support group here on DU, please let me know.
(this is not for me, I've never been on benzos, but for a dear friend who needs help).
Thanks!

I'm not a doc or nurse, but this is medical fact.
Please tell your friend to see their doctor for medically supervised downward titration.

My friend's doctor cut him off cold turkey!
He has a new doctor now.

(10,036 posts)My brother was an emergency room doc. He said they could turn away narcotics addicts but were required to treat alcohol and benzodiazepine withdrawal. Ive heard narcotic withdrawals will make you wish you were dead but it wont kill you.

(667 posts)Look up the Heather Ashton Method of withdrawal from benzodiazepines. Your friend will need a compounding pharmacy. Tell her to go through this long process patiently and proudly, proud that she is extricating herself from dependency. She will be thankful eventually that shes free of the brain damaging drug. Im proud of your friend. Tell this person to follow the method to a T.
