Calls grow to boycott Coca-Cola, McDonald's and PepsiCo as major firms stay in Russia

https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/us-politics/cocacola-mcdonalds-pepsico-boycott-russia-b2029741.html

Calls have been mounting for a boycott of McDonald’s, Coca-Cola and PepsiCo as the companies have thus far not joined the ranks of other major global firms in pulling their operations out of Russia.

Three Ukrainian supermarket chains announced they are removing Coca-Cola products from their store shelves and the hashtags #BoycottCocaCola, #BoycottPepsi and #BoycottMcDonalds were trending on Twitter over the weekend as customers vowed to shun their products so long as they continue to do business with Russia.

Dozens of big corporations including Apple and Netflix have halted operations in the country in the 10 days since President Vladimir Putin launched a full-scale attack on Ukraine.

But, while many firms have taken a stand, several food and drink companies have stayed silent and refused to cut ties with Russia. Major players including McDonald’s, Coca-Cola and PepsiCo are now coming under increasing pressure from both political figures and social media users to pull their business from the country.

There is a very large Ukrainian community here. That is one of the things some of the organizers of the rally were calling for. They emphasized McDonald's because its headquarters is in Chicago but they also mentioned Coca-Cola and Starbucks

The companies should stay there. Pressure should be exerted on them to change Russia from the inside.

Just like with apartheid, I always felt companies should stay and give higher wages, to lift up the people. I am sure huge companies, such as Coca Cola could exert some pressure from the inside.

It cannot be that easy to say they would just be arrested, so no go. People have done stealth things like the Underground Railroad or Shindler’s list types of things forever. Maybe even get someone in to take out Putin. There has to be something.

Hoping to slip under the radar until all the lights are shining bright upon them. Then we get a resounding, "Hey! We're pulling our products out, too!"

Fucking sociopathic greed.

At least they are in the USA. If they are the same in Russia, they are likely owned by Russians. I don't know how the corporate people can force them to close.
