The average semi-truck gets about 6.5 miles per gallon, said ArrowTruck.com in an advice post for how to save fuel. TopMark also noted that claims that there are trucks that can somehow get 10 miles per gallon are "a fantastic pipedream."
As some noticed, the convoy is going to be forced to pay out thousands for just a day of protest. The lowest price for diesel in Hagerstown, Maryland, is $3.93 per gallon, according to GasBuddy, and the highest is $4.56. So, at an average of $4.25 per gallon and the average trip from Hagerstown to I-495, and around the Beltway and back to Hagerstown, is about 184 miles.
That means each drive from Hagerstown, a loop around the Beltway, and back to Hagerstown will cost about $120.32 each trip for one truck. If there are 100 trucks that's over $12,000 in diesel fuel.
That'll own the libs for sure, Bubba!

But they had the best public transportation.

The traffic is bumper to bumper at 5mph during rush hour, and bumper to bumper at 70mph otherwise.

(50,530 posts)These guys didnt pick Hagerstown for no reason. Theres a truck stop there. You cant take a Class 8 truck to a regular gas station because it wont fit. The truck stop is a Loves, and theyre currently charging $5.38 per gallon. The diesel exhaust fluid any truck made after January 1, 2010, needs is $4.18 per gallon
and you need one gallon of it per 50 gallons fuel.
NOW where are these peckerwoods getting their money? It costs a dollar a mile to move one of these beasts, just for fuel. That doesnt include the wear on your $7200 set of tires, your $1500 set of brakes, or your $300 oil change. It doesnt include truck payments or insurance. Nor does it include all the money youre leaving on the table by hauling 43,000 pounds of hatred instead of that much freight. (It also leaves out the cost of the divorce lawyer youre going to need when your wife figures out youre doing this shit instead of raising money to buy food for the kids and make your house payment.) Just fuel and DEF. One dollar a mile.

I don't know how they apply for the expenses but they don't seem to be hurting for money despite their protestations of how the Covid restrictions are hurting their business.

(58,785 posts)The WaPo said that yesterday large #s didn't do the second loop and that on that second loop the convoy stretched out so much that it didn't look like a convoy and just blended into the regular traffic. So those may be reasons for just one loop today.
There are two convoys in the area so far, the one parking at Hagerstown and another at Dominion Raceway.
"Both are composed of vehicles from all over the country, totaling about 2,000 vehicles, including several hundred trucks, Norton said in a statement."
