Where were you when the lockdown was announced? I was on an Amtrak train, on my way home to Pittsburgh from a weekend in New York City.

(30,980 posts)In fact I think I was discharged a day earlier than they had promised because of the pandemic.I was glad I got it done before the shit hit the fan. My brother was on a vacation in Greece and spent 48 hours getting a return trip. Thank goodness we all came out of it OK

(2,220 posts)soups, chili, stews, casseroles, spaghetti sauces. We pretty much knew things would be shutting down going into that weekend.
I remember going out that Friday morning (the 13th!) for my last errands. I stopped at the library to return and stock up on books, I early voted, and I had my last spaghetti and meatball special at my favorite Italian place. I was the only customer, and I remember talking to the staff, all of us knowing we wouldnt see each other again for a long while. It was sad.
That evening, I went to the visitation for my cousin, who had died on Tuesday from a fall (think Bob Saget..same thing). Hubster couldnt be at the visitation because he was packing up his office in preparation to work at home. His company had announced they were shutting the office the day before. We went to the funeral on Saturday, everyone knowing the risk we were taking but quite overcome by grief.
We had seen pics of empty grocery shelves and were nervous. When we got home from the funeral, I drew up a big grocery list to make our favorite freezables. We hit the stores at 6am Sunday morning and were happily surprised. We got most things at the first store and everything else at two others. I had bought a big package of toilet paper the week before because we were down to about six rolls, so we didnt have to worry about that for quite a while. By the time we needed it again, it was easier to find.
I cooked for two solid days. We hunkered down in our little house, ate well, tried not to drive one another crazy, and waited. I think I used up the last freezer meal a year and a half later.
