(57,073 posts)AND Russia must be brought to its knees, forced to full nuke disarmament!
No lifting sanctions before this is done. I don't mean empry promises, I mean completed.
Incoming trolls, no doubt...
Lonestarblue
(9,988 posts)The sanctions must not be removed until Putin is gone and Russians are able to hold real elections. If they choose another dictator in a fair election, thats their choice but the West should not restart their investments and international cooperation until nuclear weapons are gone from Russia. New treaties can be developed that protect the smaller countries surrounding Russia to trigger specific retaliation for any aggression.

(17,235 posts)After Putler hinting he might use a nuke, plus Russia almost starting a meltdown, after this war is over and Putler
is off the world's stage, I see serious talks coming about de-nuking the entire world. Plus it'll be the U.S. leading
the charge.

Nor will any other nuclear power, the US included They look at it as national suicide to do so.
That is why it is so important to keep (peacefully) Iran from going nuclear (arms).

(57,073 posts)But, when Russia is brought to its knees begging for sanctions to be lifted, it is a demand the world should unite to make imo.
Their track record sucks!

(43,356 posts)Ukraine, Belarus, and Kazakhstan had Soviet nukes, which then formally were transferred (control of them) to the CIS, (the successor to the USSR) when the USSR broke up. All 3 returned them to Russia within several years.

(32,639 posts)Heather Bresch (Joe Manchin's daughter) wasn't retained by Upjohn as the CEO, but she got a buyout of her contract. I think she made something like $30 million when Upjohn bought the company.
Just to clarify: she did earn her BA from WVU, it was the Master's degree that was "honorary" and caused a lot of controversy.

(27,592 posts)As FakeNoose noted, Manchin's daughter, Heather Bresch, earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from WVU. It was her WVU Master's Degree that was the subject of controversy. Her EMBA award was a flawed decision by WVU, and that degree was revoked in 2008.

(111,256 posts)Ukrainians are disciplined and they knew this was coming.
Putin's troops are typical dictator troops, they look great in parades but not so much in the field. Dictators are always a little afraid of rank and file military and make sure the leadership is weak.
My guess is that Putin will be offered a choice: leave all of Ukraine including Crimea and have a neutral Ukraine next door or fight on, lose, and have a NATO allied Ukraine next door A neutral Ukraine would allow him to save face and might work.
Ukraine has to know who its friends are. So does Russia.

(455 posts)I'd love to see Ukraine respond:
- We will amend our constitution...to allow us to be a nuclear-armed state.
- Russia will withdraw and keep all Russian troops at least 100km from our territory.
- Russia will surrender to us 100 strategic nuclear weapons in working order.
- Russia will pay reparations to rebuild our cities and infrastructure their unwarranted aggression has destroyed, and to compensate Ukrainian families who have lost loved ones to this aggression.
Until these conditions are met, we will continue to decimate the Russian military. All these conditions exist to either restore damage done to Ukraine in this conflict, or to ensure Russia will not engage in unprovoked aggression toward Ukraine in the future.
