Putin’s Party Urges Nationalization of Operations of Western Firms Leaving Russia
By Alexander Osipovich

Russia should nationalize the operations of Western companies exiting the country in response to the war in Ukraine, a top official in Russia’s dominant political party said on Monday.

Such a move would help prevent job losses and maintain Russia’s ability to produce goods domestically, said Andrei Turchak, the secretary of the general council of the United Russia party.

“This is an extreme measure, but we will not tolerate stabs in the back, and we will defend our people,” Mr. Turchak said in a statement posted on the party’s website. “This is a real war, and not just against Russia as a whole, but against our citizens. We will take tough retaliatory measures, acting under the laws of wartime.”

United Russia dominates Russia’s rubber-stamp parliament and is unwaveringly loyal to President Vladimir Putin.

2. Putin finally gets his excuse to revert to the USSR

Mitterrand’s brief stab at socialism and nationalization had its predictable economic mess, and now, Putin wants to do it, too. It can hardly be due the “success” of the USSR, but then ever since Lenin, the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics hardly had much to do with Socialism or Republics.

Control freaks are gonna wanna control things, and when a guy has been in absolute control of a country where things have never really gone well, what is his standard remedy? Not new leadership, nooo. More control, of course! So now his desire for complete social, military and economic control, as well as supreme leadership for as long as he breathes, can finally let him release his inner Brezhnyev. Well, слава Владимиру.

What was the definition of insanity, again?

No surprise there.

I assume the businesses knew this would happen when they left.

IKEA, Toyota, Coke, etc. weren't running their factories on locally supplied materials.

These people are dumber than rocks.
