The bill seeks to delete a section of Idaho code that protects schools, colleges, universities, museums, public libraries and employees of those entities from being prosecuted under another section of Idaho law involving giving harmful materials to minors.
BOISE, Idaho (AP) Legislation with the potential to fine Idaho librarians $1,000 and send them to jail for a year for checking out material to a minor that could harm them cleared the House on Monday.
The House voted 51-14 to approve the measure that backers said will protect children. But opponents said it is so undefined and subjective as to be unconstitutional.
Democratic House Minority Leader Ilana Rubel asked Republican Rep. Gayann DeMordaunt, the bills sponsor, if a classic young adult novel by Judy Blume that included masturbation could land a librarian in jail. DeMordaunt refused to answer.
Backers of the legislation distributed material to other lawmakers they said came from public libraries and supported the legislation. The material had widely differing reactions among lawmakers.
I would rather my 6-year-old grandson start smoking cigarettes tomorrow than get a view of this stuff one time at the public library, said Republican Rep. Bruce Skaug.

(1,962 posts)Between bills like this, and bills like that (https://www.democraticunderground.com/100216454846), Idaho isn't even bother trying to hide that they've gone full Nazi. And you know what they say... Never go full Nazi.
It's beginning to sound like Idaho has gone bye bye here. That we no longer have a "State of Idaho", but a "Nazi State of Idaho."
Insane. But the worst part? Knowing tomorrow (or even later today) there'll be a new low.

(7,886 posts)behind all this excessive regulation of people's thoughts and personal lives. Their plan is to rebuild America into a Dominionist neo-fascist tyranny with themselves as arbiters of life by virtue of King James.
They are the ones who've been supplying the rhetoric and the model legislation attacking LGBTQ+ people and constitutionally protected individual thought and expression. The intent is to use state laws to undermine federal authority and the US Constitution. They are a deeply distorted and disturbing group of very wealthy people on a mission.
They are the reason states are planning to regulate access to contraceptives in the same way they have been eliminating women's access to healthcare and abortion, along with anyone's access to the complete history of our country.

(7,886 posts)let alone have Christian compassion for him.
It is almost ironic that such a group of devotees should be so absolutely ignorant of the history of the man they refer to and claim to represent. Not at all surprising in religious circles however disappointing it is to see so much energy directed at erasing the legacy of Christ's sacrifice and his teachings.
