Republicans warn Justice Department probe of Trump would trigger political war

They claim it is "politically driven". What do they think "drove" the attack upon our Capitol and the threats upon the lives of elected leaders??
=====================================

https://thehill.com/homenews/senate/596955-republicans-warn-justice-department-probe-of-trump-would-trigger-political

Republican lawmakers are warning that any Department of Justice prosecution of former President Trump will turn into a political battle, setting a high bar for Attorney General Merrick Garland to act on an expected criminal referral from the House’s Jan. 6 committee.

The House select committee investigating the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol previewed its likely referral to the Justice Department in a court filing made public last week and experts say the evidence assembled by House investigators would provide a strong impetus for prosecutors to act.

But Republican lawmakers and strategists warn that any federal prosecution of Trump will be accused of being politically motivated, boost Trump within the GOP and turn into a partisan food fight at a time when President Biden is pivoting to the center and trying to keep his 2020 campaign promise to unify the country.

Sen. Mike Braun (R-Ind.) said any criminal referral from the House “would probably have as much political taint on it as you can get.”

“To me it’s clearly politically driven,” he said.

You guys who remained and not become a Never Trumper, lost big time. He dragged you down with him into criminal behavior so blatant and daily, so intentionally breaking the norms and the rules. Think taking top secret classified info post presidency, etc, etc, etc.

Just as Russia is now a terrorist state, so is the GOP a criminal organization.

A POLITICIAN, the former president, allegedly broke the laws. The committee investigating the matter, has sufficient evidence in hand to refer the matter for a criminal investigation. That IS POLITICS. It is about how the country is governed and how that governance affects the laws.

Are you trying to say that it is PARTISAN? Idiot!

Well, it is PARTISAN as well. Almost the ENTIRE REPUBLICAN PARTY under no circumstances, despite evidence in hand, will respect a criminal investigation. THAT IS PARTISAN. TWO Republican politicians have participated in the process, have looked at and discussed the evidence in hand, and support the referral. For their efforts, those TWO Republicans have all but been kicked out of the Republican Party. THAT IS PARTISAN.

YOU ARE THE PARTISANS you idiot!! Opposition to the pursuit of justice is being opposed by PARTISANS.

We are already in a "political war". We have one side, The Republicans, who are determined to cheat in order to retain their power despite a shrinking percentage of the electorate supporting their policies. We have the Democratic Party, who is fighting to maintain the system of government that we have had for 240+ years and to allow ALL eligible people to participate in choosing our representatives.

Nixon is likely "erect" in his grave. He wanted so badly to diminish the power of the press. He hated being accountable for the criminal and ethical breeches he committed. It was during Watergate where Pat Buchanan and Roger Ailes decided "never again" would the press have the ability to provide a relatively neutral narrative of what was happening. They decided to move forward on what was to become Fox News. They used Reagan's affability and talent in being a "pitch man" to further the Conservative agenda. They used the trauma of 9/11 and "war on terror" to advance the police state. They used Trump to tear down the "best practices" in Democratic government.

Just as long as Dems point out that the only reason was because the Republicans protected their king and threw the rest of their pawns under the bus.

It's a pretty dicky party that basically sacrifices their foot soldiers for the upper echelons of their organization. That needs to be emphasized ad nauseam; Republicans only serve royalty in this country.
