(13,895 posts)and don't want to advertise it. Plausible deniability and all that jazz.
A Polish MIG-29 looks just like a Ukrainian MIG-29 and looks just like a russian MIG-29. Different markings.
Paint a Ukrainian insignia on a Polish MIG-29 and you could not tell where it came from. Oh BTW they all came from russia. YMMV

(36,298 posts)"WASHINGTON (Reuters) -Poland's decision to put all its MiG-29 fighter jets at the disposal of the United States was "a surprise move" by Warsaw, the U.S. State Department's No. 3 diplomat said on Tuesday, after Ukraine asked European countries to provide aircraft to help it fight Russia's invasion.
"To my knowledge, it wasn't pre-consulted with us that they planned to give these planes to us," State Department Undersecretary of State for Political Affairs Victoria Nuland told a Senate Foreign Relations Committee hearing. "So I think that actually was a surprise move by the Poles," she said.
Poland is ready to deploy all its MiG-29 jets to Ramstein Air Base in Germany and put them at the disposal of the United States, and urges other NATO members that own planes of that type to do the same, the Polish Foreign Ministry said earlier."

Poland won't be giving these jets directly to Ukraine.

(32,634 posts)There's no time to train them to fly F-16s, they need to fly MIGs.
We didn't have them but Poland does. Poland was giving them to Ukraine, and we were planning to give F-16s to Poland to replace them. So now, I don't know how this happened, but the Polish MIGs were given to us instead of Ukraine and now we need to get them into Ukraine ASAP! I don't get it, our pilots can't fly these planes.
How did this happen, and what a clusterfuck! Vindman is going nuts over this.

(13,895 posts)#1 to see how capable the MIG's were against US jets and also for aerial combat training.
Think TOP GUN.
Now for the numbers of US pilots trained on MIG's, I don't know. For a ferry mission I guess it's not to difficult to train a fighter jock to learn a MIG and it's flight controls. Combat would be another story. BTW the US pilots thought the MIG29 was a "capable" aircraft with lots of limitations in a modern aerial war.

To all the people who think DoD has secret weapons in Roswell, if they haven't shown up when needed most, I doubt their existence. Jewish space lasers, too. I was kind of hoping they (OR SOMETHING SIMILAR, OF WHICH I HAVE NO KNOWLEDGE) would show up.
No time like today, if we want to see tomorrow!

(13,180 posts)I don't hold with outsiders criticizing their decisions, especially not with snark and exclamation points. If there's a "substantive rationale," then Lieu and Vindman need to say what it is, not just emote and opinionate.
