I don't have much stomach for this sort of thing anyway. If it were happening here, I would be hiding at home because I would be too terrified to be in the streets.
In my mind, soldiers fight wars... soldiers who are well trained, well equipped, well armed, properly outfitted, and led by more experienced soldiers. Their roles are specialized, and their communication is good. Under the best of circumstances they volunteer for to go to war instead of being forced to by circumstances. Their basic needs are met. And they have the ability to last for months if necessary.
An army of civilians cannot stand for long against a professional army. I'm not saying the Russians are all that great, but... I think Ukraine needs help from real soldiers.
Edit: I'm not saying Ukraine doesn't have real soldiers, but my impression is that they are outnumbered.

(29 posts)It's clear that Putin doesn't give a damn about modern concepts like precision bombing, minimising civilian casualties, etc. He probably views them as a modern Western bourgeois affectation.

(11,088 posts)Under international law, a levee en masse is a spontaneous rising of the civilian population to defend against an invading force. Members of a levee en masse are lawful combatants and entitled to the protections under the Geneva Convention and Hague Protocols.
Do not underrate the Ukrainian people. They will bleed the Russians white.
