13. Funny thing. Richard hated England.

He liked going out crusading and carousing in warm weather, spending English taxes abroad while he was doing that. He could barely read, couldn't even speak English, and thought England was low and barbaric. He died in a foreign country, not planning to go home to England any time soon.
John wasn't that much better as a ruler, but stuck between an empty treasury and equally (to him) greedy barons with more money on hand than he did, he cracked the whip a bit too hard.
