Yeah, you can't hid the fact that someone's 19 yr isn't calling their mother after their conscription is over.
Someone posted they bet Putrid blames one of the killed Russian Battle flag officers

But conscripts will continue to go for as long as Russians are in Ukraine. And will continue dying, for that same amount of time.

(110,908 posts)Apparently 30% of their military is made up of conscripts.
He thought it would be a cakewalk, that the Ukrainians would run away from a line of big, scary tanks, Kyiv would fall in hours, and it would be all over, why not send conscripts with no supply lines? Hell, they didn't even tell them where they were going, what their objective was, or that they'd get shot at, if multiple captured soldiers are to be believed.
The problem is that their professional military won't be much better, too many yes men in the command structure. They'll just be a little more efficient at breaking stuff and killing civilians until it is over.

(8,049 posts)to sign a military contract, send him to a gory death in Ukraine, shrug your shoulders when the parents want to know what happened, why they don't hear from their boy--I think this will be the thing that undoes Putin, more than economics or anything else.

(17,305 posts)Sounds like you need a Stalin style purge of the military leadership. It is always better to sweep from the top down.
You beat me to it.

(7,982 posts)might somehow try to blame the people carrying out his orders for the Ukraine operation by claiming they betrayed his real, much more benign purpose, however he may try to portray it after the fact. This followed by a purge of those rogue officials.

It's still a lot of kia's though. I wonder how many just bled to death because they don't have a mash and rapid evac capability deployed?

(3,235 posts)Asked at a House hearing, Lt. Gen. Berrier, of the Pentagon's Defense Intelligence Agency, said "somewhere between 2,000 and 4,000."
He did add that the estimate is considered "low confidence" because it was put together using a combination of intelligence sources and open source data.
