4. Nah. It's probably because his parents would get the 60+ discount plan.

But they also allow other people to join in while keeping the discount for all additional lines. I am doing that with my parents too. Of course, I am paying the whole bill because it is about the same price for a 3 people line and my own one person line.

I hear they also work well in Europe, unlike Verizon. Hoping to find out next year if we still have a world.

12. Yeah. I was paying 70-80 dollars a month for one line (not unlimited with Verizon) for years.

2 years ago, my parents finally convinced me to join them as they got their 60+ discount. So it's almost the same price for 3 phones unlimited to my previous plan for just one person.

“Kids” on their cell phone plans. Even some whose kids are in their 40’s with children of their own.

My 28 yr old makes well into the six figures, not even counting bonuses, and he’s still on our plan. He’s on my Netflix, too.

despite living in another city (same state though).

My kids are in their 20s, one in grad school and one heading to law school. They're on my phone plan, Netflix, Hulu, and of course health insurance until they age out. The one that has a vehicle is on my car insurance when he's actually in school. They have their own Amazon and NYT accounts.

It's all good.

Fun thing to do: mess with the parental controls on Netflix. My youngest son (the one heading to law school) couldn't figure out why he suddenly only had access to G rated shows last week. He sent me a screen shot of a bunch of animated shows in his feed.

14. We paid for our kids car insurance

the first few years out of college. Even though he had good paying job we paid anyway as car insurance is very expensive in the city where he lives. It was $400ish/month. After a few years and raises, plus better paying job we cut that cord. By then he was older so his rate went down, too. He also stayed on our health insurance until he aged out. It was silly for him to pay for employers plan when he could stay on our plan and it didn’t cost us anything to keep him on. We were on a family plan and it didn’t matter how many in a family, 2 or 10 no difference.

By helping him out when he first graduated with those types of things he was able to put more into his employer’s retirement plan. Having no college debt helped him with savings, too. He just bought a house last year and didn’t even need to ask us for help with down payment,

And I’m still paying for his phone!

17. I was on my parents' plan well into my 30s

My original phone in my late teens early twenties made sense, because you had unlimited calls to people in the plan, and my parents were who I actually used my phone with the most. And it was just plain cheaper to have us split the bill. My father eventually got my niece a phone and put her on the plan as well.

When he died a few years back, we dissolved the plan. My mom wanted to simplify all her bills and not keep track of everything.

But it's not unusual for families to be on the same plans well into adulthood. It's no different than splitting streaming services, amazon accounts or anything else.

Kind of odd people are making fun of this. Miller's a shitheel for a thousand reasons, but this isn't really one of them.

I guess people really didn't know that splitting phone plans was a thing.

No shame in it at all. But Miller acts as though everyone should be Ayn Rand’s acolyte.

The man rents no space in my head, so I would neither know nor care.

I was just commenting, because people didn't seem to know how common plan sharing is.

It's pretty common.

that would be a no for us.

Almost everyone I know has their adult kids on their phone plans and most do not own their own business. Some also have their kids pay for their portion. We don’t bother because it’s just not that much money to begin with.
