Trucker Convoy Doesn't Plan to Leave D.C. Area Anytime Soon
The convoy's meeting with Republican politicians may be a big step for the group, which had been struggling to maintain support.

Instead of driving loops around Washington D.C., the leaders of the trucker convoy spent Wednesday morning handing out a plaque and medallions to the convoys attendees.
The doling out of commemorative items came after the convoys leadership met with a number of Republican politicians on Capitol Hill Tuesday, including Senator Ted Cruz, Senator Ron Johnson, Rep. Matt Gaetz and Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene.
The convoy was inspired by Canadas freedom convoy, which embedded itself into Ottawa and wreaked havoc on the country's capital for weeks. While the group in the U.S. has raised significant money and gotten plenty of media attention, its been subdued in comparison thus far. The group has been staging in Hagerstown, Maryland, north of the capital, for four days now, and have been spending their time rolling in a single lane convoy around the Beltwayan eight-lane highway that surrounds Washington D.C.
For several hours on Tuesday, the groups leadership held multiple meetings with lawmakers. Cruz and Johnson railed against Democrats and President Joe Biden and the convoy attendees aired their grievances about COVID-19 health restrictions, the media, and spoke of the Great Awakening (which is a phrase often associated with the QAnon conspiracy movement). On Wednesday, Brian Brase, the convoys spokesperson and de facto leader, said the convoys YouTube live stream of the event was pulled down for medical misinformation.

(182,789 posts)Sounds like Cruz and Johnson very politely told them that they got nothing for these morons
The organizers were really pressing for more immediate change, while the politicians had to remind them that there is a policy and a hierarchy and a timeline they must follow.

(16,389 posts)What the hell is that supposed to mean? Aren't these basically the same people who want the government to control what their kids learn in school about the history of this country and what kind of medical care parents of trans kids are allowed to give their children (along with many other things)?
Sounds just a tad bit hypocritical to me.

(2,008 posts)I thought the "real hard-workin' muricans" hung out all day at rural diners talking to gullible East Coast reporters.
Guess with their orange god/emperor out of office, they've experienced a drop-off in number of reporters willing to come to them, so they had to drive to Hagerstown...

(15,324 posts)Their plan...their ONLY plan, no matter if it's this, spittle screaming about references to a penis or a breast in a library book, or threatening School Boards and city councils, the goal is to find the next T-Bagging of America
It's sound and fury signifying nothing.
It worked for the T-Baggers. A dozen Dipshits in tri-corner hats, screaming from their Medicare provided My Scooters about getting "gubmint out of Medicare", were turned into media darlings.
It worked for Donnie Dipshit, as the media turned an empty podium into my TVs screensaver waiting for the next fart to come out of Donnie Shit for Brains face anus.
It's about nothing but trying to generate media attention. They are the Paris Hiltons of Kim Kardashians. Simply trying to be famous for being famous.
Being ignorant, loud and abusive has always worked for them.
Maybe the media has caught on to their game

(21,447 posts)several people in Congress (including my own disgusting district rep) and the Trump hoopla put him in the WH for 4 years of disaster, I would not discount what the a-holes in the truck caravan could do as they network with each other and sustain their fascist ideology.
After J6, how can anyone discount these threats to democracy?

Now I can look for trucks with medallions on their side,

(146,288 posts)Owner/operator trucks, assorted SUVs and pickups, etc. The truckers apparently can't get a load. The SUV and pickup drivers are probably mostly retired or on disability. Nothing better to do than take part in a meaningless protest against "mandates" that no longer exist.
Embarrassing, I'd think.

But seriously, what mastermind would want to slow traffic on the Beltway (495)? It's already a disaster. The real work isn't being done in the Pentagon or within the beltway - it happens all across the country and around the world. All the way up to your doorstep, Vlad.
