a NATO countries' hands being on it. A non-NATO nation has to sign a sale/transfer agreement, then non-NATO pilots have to fly them from Poland to a non-aligned airfield, then from there to Ukraine through non-NATO airspace.
It can get done and I hope VP Harris, on her way there, can make it happen.

(1,923 posts)IFF systems identify aircraft. Relying in visual id isn't possible in most situations so its done electronically through encrypted transponders.

(17,536 posts)It is a long way from my house to that fellow.
That doesn't mean that I don't support the Ukrainians. I am a confirmed tightwad and I just sent them money.....
You have to be skeptical of everything you see coming out of a war zone, from either side. I am not insulting the Ukrainians, but I have studied wars for over half a century and Mr. Churchill got it right when he said, "In wartime, truth is so precious that she should always be attended by a bodyguard of lies." Propaganda will be generated on both sides, it is an integral part of war.
If you really believe all of the good stuff, and none of the bad stuff about either side, you are not executing good judgement. I can tell you right now, without any evidence, that there will be war crimes committed by Ukrainians too; don't think that they will all behave like all saints. War brings out the very worst in the fighters. Especially when the fighting becomes close quarters combat, it becomes a cycle of atrocity and revenge. It is the way it is and the way it always has been. C'est la Guerre.

(18,647 posts)Each side has reason to lie and most reporters don't know what they are talking about so just pass on what they are told.
This incident however was caught on video and the same picture was on the front page of NYT. At the time this photo was taken the man was alive (I don't know if he survived) but his wife and two children were dead.
You have no need to preach to me about what happens in a war zone. I'll leave it to you to infer the meaning behind that.

(67,798 posts)There was a first hand witness. The photographer is a Pulitzer prize winning veteran war correspondent for the New York Times.
Addario has been sharing her experience in the moments before and after she witnessed the mortar hit the family, who, laden with backpacks and suitcases, were fleeing over the Irpin River to Kyiv when they were attacked.

I believe her and give zero credence to your opinion. You would do well to delete it. Its reflects badly on you.
You will not get another reply from me. I am disgustedly done with you.

(8,052 posts)I saw it on BBC. The mortar or rocket, whichever it was, can be seen whizzing by with flames, and then the videographer filmed the aftermath. Here is the interview of this journalist:
