One thing that hasn't been discussed much....the majority of launches are coming from Russian soil....Patriot missile defense might be more useful.

You do something to invite attack, you're on your own.
Look at the phrasing. If a NATO country gives Ukr planes, well, that's on them. If in response they get attacked, maybe we'll provide them with some anti-tank weapons and blankets.
Now, if NATO gives Ukr planes (or the US, a NATO country), then NATO as a whole could be stuck footing a war.
Now, why the US would feel that it's in charge of what other countries do, at their own risk, dunno.
