Update on friend in Ukraine. My son was able to speak with her for a few minutes early

this morning. He thinks he convinced her to attempt to leave Kyiv. There was damage a few days ago to the main train station, but she will check if trains are still making it to the west. If not, he mapped out an escape route that would require her to walk for 6 days. That isn't ideal for her because of her battle with Covid and its lasting effect on her health.

Don't know when we'll be in communication again. Once she's out of the country, we will get her to America.

How old is she? I truly hope she’s young.

I don’t pray…but my thoughts are with you/her.

friendly towns/houses? Sunday looks kinda bad…cloudy, etc. Highs in the 30’s (f) for that time span. She will need over 2500 calories/day, probably closer to 3000.

Backpack, tent, sleeping bag.

dried food(not canned…too heavy). I don’t know what kind of beef jerky like foods they have there. Dried rice, oats, etc…light and energy dense.

Clothes…ALL WOOL, or synthetics. Cotton kills…hypothermia.

All in, she’ll be carrying at least 30 lbs. to make a 6 day trek with no resupply/help.

It's too cold to sleep outside right now. I hope she gets weather reports (or good advice) because she should hold off until it warms up a bit. It's good that she wants to leave, maybe there are other young women who can travel together. It would be safer to go in a group.

Good luck (and prayers) to your friend and to all Ukrainians who are in peril now!

to port her out. There has to be someone who can escort her out. If you had unlimited money, you could hire an extraction team.

I live in a hot area, so I get cold at 65 degrees. She may have to wait until that cold snap passes. But, if she now has the info that your son gave her, she can implement the plan. Train first, then walk. She's young, she can find a way. But, she can't wait weeks. She doesn't have that long.

I feel bad about this. I have nothing to offer except prayers.

I hope she's able to escape. But SHEESH - having to walk for six days... And God only knows what she'd have to walk through. I hope she's got someone to walk with her, if it comes to that.
