Sniper arrives in Ukraine after answering call for foreign fighters

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-10595277/Canadian-sniper-arrives-Ukraine-answering-President-Zelenskys-call-foreign-fighters.html

One of the world's most fearsome snipers is set to join the fighting in Ukraine after answering President Volodymyr Zelensky's call for foreign volunteers to help defeat Russian invaders.

The marksman, known only by his nickname 'Wali', hails from the Royal Canadian 22nd Regiment and has previous combat experience from fighting in the Kandahar theatre during the Afghanistan War between 2009 and 2011.

The 40-year-old later took it upon himself to travel to Iraq in 2015 to help fight the Islamic State's forces.

In June 2017, one of his comrades reportedly shot dead an Islamic State terrorist from an incredible distance of 3,450m - more than two miles away.

It has been widely reported that a member of the Royal Canadian 22nd used a McMillan Tac-50 rifle to fatally shoot an Islamic State terrorist in 2017 from more than two miles away - a 'world-record' for the longest ever kill shot.

*snip*

Maybe the comrade needs to join him.

I don't know if this is happening but I've read reports that people arrested in Moscow for protesting the war were conscripted into the army.

And I also doubt that most of the 18-21 year-old soldiers even know what they are fighting for, or against.

Putin is a butcher. War is hell. Shoot at the people making the decisions to carry this on.

You don't send a guy capable of hitting targets a mile away to pick off a 20 yr old conscript.

Those guys can be taken care of by regular Ukrainian infantry.

Otherwise they're there to shoot at Ukrainians, and are therefore fair targets.

That's the sad reality of war. Young men get conscripted, and then get shot at and killed by the people they've been sent to fight.

The Nazis had lots of brainwashed young conscripts fighting for them too. Their deaths were on Hitler just as these young men's deaths are on Putin.

War isn't fair.

It's about time that we peaceful, accepting folks realize that there are monsters in this world, many of them right here at home, and after you have tried everything else, the best way to deal with them is a bullet in the head.

Sorry to say that, sorry if it upsets anyone, but the world is not a Sunday School picnic and war has it's own calculus.

Unfortunately it is war and he is no different than the pilots shooting people down and becoming heroes. He is an expert at his job, he is not killing innocents or being hired out to kill government officials.

He just happened to have perfect aim. Alvin York.

Probably the best marksman in DC political arena of the last half-century was more known for his anti war positions. John Kerry.

I learned quite a bit from them. The ones I knew made me feel safe when they held a gun nearby. They were all the sort you could depend on.

They were both quiet and unassuming with pretty good senses of humor. They (like a great number of former soldiers) never talked about their experiences.

Optics for a gun like that start at several thousand; ammo several dollars per shot. Optional gear like night vision and suppressor add thousands more.

they strike fear in an enemy's heart because the enemy never knows when the sniper will strike.

The Russians will know he's there, but they won't know where until he strikes.
