(90,761 posts)If they're already in business - and they are by her wording - otherwise she wouldn't direct them at women in business, then they are already up off their asses and working.
The other thing being how clueless it is to suggest that the reason women aren't doing better in business, or not in business at all, is because they are lazy and unwilling to work...and it's just plain stupid.
The size of her ass plays no part in this.
However, she was born with advantages a lot of women aren't and she seems to think she did it all her own.
Many people born with the advantage of wealth often tell themselves that lie. "I did it all on my own".

(64,951 posts)I believe it was the great Ann Richards who coined that turn of phrase.
She was talking about one of the Bush gang when she said they were born on 3rd base & think they hit a triple.

Is pointing that out misogynist?
Zeitghost
(3,856 posts)Because it's about her as a person, not her body.

(4,446 posts)She did that to herself. If it was her natural figure, Id agree with you. But her ass is just as open for commentary as Mickey Rourkes face. Self-inflicted.
Zeitghost
(3,856 posts)Body shaming is okay, provided the parts being mocked were altered by choice. Kinda like Magats going after the trans community who choose to outwardly display their gender.
It's not an excuse, no matter how hard you try to defend it.
GaYellowDawg
(4,446 posts)There is no choice involved with the trans community. They are, intrinsically, who they are, and choice is not a part of the equation, nor is it a part of any of the hormonal or surgical adjustments necessary to match their bodies with who they are.
It is a completely voluntary choice to have the surgery to make your ass look like that. You really ought to be ashamed to draw a connection between that and gender affirmation surgery.
Zeitghost
(3,856 posts)Is that all forms of body shaming are wrong. Those of you trying to split hairs are no better than any of the others trying to excuse their hateful and bigoted behavior.
It's very simple, when a woman voices an opinion and the criticisms are about the size of her behind, you are witnessing blatant misogyny and body shaming. I'm not sure why this is so hard for a group of progressives to understand.
GaYellowDawg
(4,446 posts)Because I dont think its splitting hairs to say that you are completely wrong in comparing her ass surgery to gender affirmation surgery. Before you go lecturing people on their misogyny, maybe youd better check your own privilege when youre that dismissive of the trans community.
Its actually this simple: its not misogyny to say that someone who is stupid enough to have surgery to make her ass look like that has no business telling other people to get off of theirs. I hope youre wearing something warm. Its got to be cold up on that high horse.
treestar
(82,383 posts)1. Her ass is fake;
2. She actually used the concept of getting up off of your ass to work;
3. We don't know how much she makes fun of other women's bodies, but it's at least possible that she has;
3. I doubt she is a bastion of feminism. Admittedly could be wrong on that.
But that kind of comment usually does not come from feminists or women who would never make fun of another woman's body.
It's like calling TFG fat. Even fat DUers will say they don't care when it's TFG. TFG makes fun of other people, oddly, for being overweight. He is probably delusional enough to think he is not.
Zeitghost
(3,856 posts)That she (may have) done it first? That doesn't work for my children. You should be ashamed of yourself trying to defend misogyny and body shaming all in one post.
Some of you here really need to open your eyes to your own bigotry.
Attack people based on their words and ideas, not the body they have, through choice or nature. Again, I'm shocked that this is not only happening here, but is being defended vigorously. Be better.

(136 posts)This boils my blood, and I am sorry my first post is one that is out of anger. I don't care for the Kardashians at all. Not here to defend them. But to see a post that may have started about her comments, but is almost purely focused on her body disgusts me. I have learned quite a bit from this site over the years, heck decades now. But then stuff like this just makes my blood boil. Argue and discuss on the merits of what she says, or has said. But please, grow up and knock off the juvenile comments and body shaming that are just hateful. As a father of a daughter with body image issues, this hits home for me. My apologies to have my first post after all of these years to be a negative one.

That sounds just like the the defense of anti-trans slurs the right uses.
leftstreet
(36,102 posts)Hmm.
Why would a person who transitioned and "chose the aspect their appearance" be mocked at all? There would be no reason.
Zeitghost
(3,856 posts)I'm saying only right wing Magats make the excuse that it's okay to mock a persons appearance as long as they chose the aspect being mocked.
leftstreet
(36,102 posts)It's actually the opposite. They mock skin color, ethnicity, gender, height, you name it.
But nice try painting DUers as "right wing Magats" because they guffawed at a millionaire celebrity's inflated arse, after she tried to shame people for not getting up off their...arses.
Zeitghost
(3,856 posts)Of course Magats disparage based on race, ethnicity, etc. They're horrible people.
They also mock physical appearance, both chosen and inherited. It doesn't mean we have to join them and it doesn't mean I can't call out those who do.

You laugh this off and think this is something that hey, it's just a joke or whatnot. Or this isn't an issue that is important to some people because it isn't that important to you. Well, it is. Matter of life and death important. The saddest part is the one place you would think everyone would get that and support you would be DU. Guess not. Very sad.

(136 posts)You have no idea who I am or what I have been through or what I care about. I vote and am active every election cycle, I volunteer with our registrar to work at the polls, I have handed out literature door to door, and worked phone banks. In my opinion it is much more productive than sitting around, preaching to the choir on a message board. I visit DU every single day to catch up on news and other topics. Have found it to be a great source and quite a few times find out breaking news here first before I even catch on other main stream media sources.
So, to your point of why this was the first topic I posted on all of these years, well there has to be a first. As a single father of two daughters who I have sole physical and legal custody of for reasons that break my heart, the comments and attacks I see on women mostly, but honestly all people, for their body is something that is very, very important to me. My eldest daughter has been through hell and back because of this stuff, and it just makes me so, so sad. It has been to the point in the past of working through issues with suicide. So yeah, this is a pretty damn pressing topic for me. People can say the shittiest things that they think are just a joke, but have no idea what that truly does the psyche of a person. Unfortunately, I can't impart on my daughter that hey, just don't pay attention to that mess, or don't listen to them. Myself, I couldn't care any less what you say to me about my physical appearance, etc.. but it is so important at a young age to not be ostracized by peers for your body shape or type. So while you may not see this is a "pressing topic facing the nation", I assure you it is, and is a very pressing topic facing me and my family.
Attack Kim for what she said, there is plenty there for that. But damn, grow up (not speaking directly to you) and knock off the comments about her body. It is her choice what she looks like or what she does with her body, it is just none of your business.
AZLD4Candidate

Not:
A country lurching towards authoritarianism?
A madman invading a country with his paranoid finger on the button?
Police misconduct and the movement for their accountability?
Wall Street corruption?
The growth and acceptance of neo-nazism and white supremacy?
None of that is important. Body Shaming is your issue, especially when that body shamed is made of more plastic than a credit card.
Okay. . .thanks for your input.

(17,421 posts)People who state things like Ms. Kardashian has stated tend to be people who disgust me.
My feelings have nothing to do with her ass, her breasts, or her face.
Rather, my feelings have to do with "starting lines".
Whenever topics such as "work" "success" "work ethic" "drive" "strength" "laziness" and "self-made" are discussed, I always remember this one simple concept: Not everyone begins life at the same starting line.
Some people are born rich, some dirt poor.
Some have good parents, some have bad parents.
Some experience life changing trauma while young, some don't.
Some lose their parents while young, some don't.
Some use all their energy dealing with seen and unseen disabilities, some don't.
Some struggle their entire lives with depression, some don't.
Some are praised their entire lives, some aren't.
Some are treated fairly their whole lives, some aren't.
Some are what society considers to be physically beautiful, some aren't.
Some have orders of magnitude more barriers in life to deal with than others.
People who make flippant comments like "get your fucking ass up and work" are either dead stupid, or so self-important that they are unable to get out of their own heads for a moment in order to understand the world around them.
