NOT ACTUALLY DEBATABLE
Robert Wolf was asked to respond to recent Republican criticisms that Bidens decision to nix the pipeline has come back to bite him in the form of high gas prices.

Robert Wolf, a member of the presidents Export Council from 2014 to 2016, was asked to respond to an increasingly frequent Republican argument that the Biden administration shouldnt have nixed the Keystone XL pipeline because it would have helped prevent the current rise in oil and gas prices.
Perhaps opening up the Keystone pipeline is not off the table for this White House? Smith asked after playing a clip of Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) accusing the Biden administration of being unfriendly to oil and gas companies.
I think [the pipeline] is off the table, Wolf said. And lets recall a few things: One, its the worst type of oil you can have. Its tar sands going from Alberta to the Gulf of Mexico. It wasnt going to really change anything to do with our oil supply. It was to export from the Gulf of Mexico.
Smith, who has been fact-checked on-air by a former Obama adviser before, then interjected, Thats debatable.

(182,603 posts)The videos we watch of him embarassing himself with Psaki are framed as victories. He gets credit for just asking the question. Regardless of what she says (sometimes they barely show it) shes avoiding the question.
Wolf did correct the host but she exhibited textbook Fox. She read bulleted talking points without asking a question. When Wolf finished she offered a summary that had nothing to with what hed just said.
Stephen Moore. One of the most bizarre Trump picks. Trump nominated him for the Fed. Moore has impressive degrees but now hes a TV News personality propped up by think tanks. No one takes him seriously.

(4,545 posts)The Alberta oil sands production was to be delivered by Keystone XL primarily to refineries in Port Arthur, Texas, not for export as crude oil. It was desirable to send the crude oil to that location as there are existing refineries there that can process that type of crude.
If Canadian producers wanted only to export the oil as crude, why transport it all the way to a port in Texas?

A HERETIC I AM
(24,360 posts)Basically the consistency of warm peanut butter.
I heard an industry person describe it that way a few years ago. That the tar sand has to be heated to make it so it can be pumped, and since it is mostly sand, it is extremely corrosive to the inside of the pipe. I will concede that I am by no means an expert on this subject and may be laboring under a misapprehension.
The other thing it seems is rarely mentioned is one of the by-products of turning it into useful fuels; Sand. Mountains of sand. Black sand, at that. Because you can't really get every single atom of the tar out of it, you have enormous amounts of barely usable black sand left over.
And "mining" it just turns the environment into this;
