Ukraines Defense Intelligence Service said significant losses in personnel and equipment were caused to a Russian tank regiment in the village of Skybyn, on the eastern outskirts of Kyiv, releasing video of strikes on them on Thursday, March 10.
Footage posted to Twitter shows a large convoy of stationary tanks in Skybyn, before several explosions are seen. The convoy then moves in the opposite direction to Kyiv, as smoke is seen rising from a number of damaged tanks.
The intelligence service said the attack caused a retreat of Russian forces and that a Russian colonel died in the attack. Storyful has not independently confirmed this information. Credit: @DI_Ukraine via Storyful

(8,052 posts)numbers possible--that's the fastest way to end this. Both in crippling Russia's abilities, and in pressuring Putin back home. Ukraine's high kill rate really fucked up Putin's whole plan.

(18,483 posts)They must have believed they could transit the town unopposed before the larger town of Brovary.
Finding themselves attacked and losing their command would throw the unit into disarray. When in a kill zone, the best option is to get out of it.
I expect they will be back, but now they will have to clear the town as they go, further slowing progress. Overall an excellent anti-armor ambush.

(12,250 posts)probably Javelin or NLAW ATGM's with a drone as a possible forward spotter.

(18,483 posts)Besides the drone recording the attack, one 'explosion' is clearly the launch of an AA missile.
Usually you can see a telltale streak right before impact if it is air launched ordinance such as Hellfires. I watched the video at 1/4 speed and could not see any evidence of such a telltale.
This leads me to suspect Javelins were being used, and drones were used for observation

(4,552 posts)They were fools to invade this time of year.
They have tanks that can only operate on the road because everything else is MUD.
This is an epic military blunder. FUBAR
