What happens now for people who never got COVID?

SAN FRANCISO (KRON) — As more places remove mask mandates, some people may be fearful of catching COVID-19, especially if they’ve avoided it for the last two years.

Dr. Peter Chin-Hong, a University of California, San Francisco infectious disease expert, said the chances of catching COVID-19, despite less masking and more people returning to work in person, are low, and he expects it to be even slimmer in the coming weeks, specifically in early April.

Chin-Hong said that the medical field has advanced their knowledge of clinical care for the virus, which is good for someone who was to get COVID-19 for the first time now. People who think they haven’t gotten COVID-19 in the past most likely have contracted it and didn’t know about it, he added.

“We know from the CDC data that about twice as many people in the country, in general, got exposed to COVID than the official counts, so it means that a lot of people are having mild symptoms or no symptoms,” said Chin-Hong, referring to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

According to Chin-Hong, people who should be concerned about catching the virus despite lower infection levels should be unvaccinated people, people older than 65 who haven’t been boosted, those with a compromised immune system, and anyone who lives with people in those three groups.

It’s like we are supposed to forget there ever was/is a pandemic now. I must’ve missed the memo!

We saw what happened before when even people who had been previously very cautious let up on their precautions, new variants came and things got worse than ever before. At this point when I see people walking around in stores without masks I think of them as being the guinea pigs. I really hope all this casting aside of masks doesn't come back to haunt us. Time will tell. I will be patient.

Your chances of dying if you have the vaccine and are boosted are slim to nil. It's the anti-vaxxers that are still killing themselves in large numbers.

I was at an auto show last week in Cleveland. I was looking at a window
sticker on a car and had on slight cough, more like just clearing my throat. I never noticed there was a guy behind me with a mask, he practically ran from me. I don't think there was one person out of a thousand wearing a mask. I am not living in fear the rest
of life. I had a better chance of being killed in an accident getting there than dying from COVID.

COVID has dominated our life for two years it's time to accept it and move on. I am 74 years old i am not locking myself in the house the last year's of my life. Everyone dies from something.

To me, it's more sense than fear. I also look both ways before crossing a street. Doesn't present any significant delay, and reduces my chances of getting run over. Wearing a mask for a few hours isn't any serious imposition on me, and reduces the chances of getting Covid. As does washing my hands frequently. I've noticed that I didn't catch a cold the last couple of winters, and I'm usually good for one or two colds of varying intensity each year. If I can avoid catching a cold with these simple and CHEAP countermeasures, why not?

I've been dialing it back for a long while now - i stopped outdoor masking over a year ago. I still have to mask at my office, which has a vaccine requirement. That's starting to feel like overkill.

At this point, I'm not particularly afraid of Covid. I'm not elderly, I'm not obese, and I'm not immunocompromised. I'll stay boosted, continue to mask in groceries and public transportation, and use the antiviral pills.

As to the 1,000 deaths a day, I'd like to know WHO is dying now - the unvaccinated? immunocompromised people? the elderly? the obese?

seem to be SUPER vulnerable.

Many of the deaths in my community have been from this group. Some of the recent ones I believed (but cannot be certain) were at least partially vaccinated.

I haven't had covid and I know I haven't because my housemate has to be PCR tested regularly and she hasn't had covid, therefore it's pretty certain that I also haven't.

He didn't claim that everyone who doesn't think they had COVID really contracted it. It's also entirely possible, especially if you were both fully vaccinated, that you contracted a non-symptomatic case and didn't spread it.
