Senators questioned whether Russian officials and entities being sanctioned will be able to avoid the consequences by using cryptocurrencies. FBI Director Christopher Wray testified that his bureau has more expertise and ability to stop Russians from doing end runs around sanctions using crypto than Moscow probably understands or expects.
The intelligence chiefs repeated an assessment they gave on Tuesday during a hearing before the House Intelligence Committee that Russia is likely to face a persistent and significant insurgency after Putin misjudged how his war against Ukraine would unfold.

(32,633 posts)The Director of the FBI (currently Christopher Wray but formerly James Comey) is appointed for a 10-year term. The position is not supposed to be political, because the Director doesn't "work" for a particular president. The span of the FBI Director's term is intended to outlast the president who appointed him/her and that's the reason why. When Obama appointed James Comey as Director, it was assumed that he would serve for the entire term of Obama plus Chump. It's not normal for incoming presidents to "fire" the FBI Director ESPECIALLY for political reasons. No other president besides Chump has ever done it, AFAIK. Occasionally a Director has resigned earlier than 10 years.
