Quote from the article:
"Every competent prosecutor knows why Garland and the Department of Justice have not indicted Trump. Im going to say it out loud.
If Trump were charged, its unlikely he would negotiate a plea deal. Instead, he would go to trial and make every step of the process a platform to cast himself as a victim of a vindictive Biden administration. He would use the renewed attention to spew lies about the legitimacy of the 2020 presidential election. And he would raise money, lots of money, to fund his anticipated 2024 presidential campaign.
But most important, despite a mountain of evidence that would convict most people many times over, Trump would not be convicted. Criminal convictions require a unanimous verdict. On a 12-person jury, there are going to be Trump supporters."

(4,845 posts)It's impossible to convict Trump if you have to rely on any kind of jury. Not because he isn't guilty. It's that there will be at least one jury that will overlook and ignore all the evidence.

The article is right.

(6,423 posts)and is exactly the opposite of what Garland said. If they take him to trial, it will be in DC where it is primarily dems. They will make sure it is an overwhelming case that would easily show biased on a juror if they voted against.
Will he try to raise money, sure he will but once the evidence becomes public, I believe he will further lose supporters, except for his hardcore and who he hell cares at that point.
He wouldn't lose any and the outcome of the trial would be the same as the outcome of his impeachment. He'd walk and claim to be completely exonerated.
Jurors can be biased, it's all about their ownjudgment, even if it's bad. Even in a place with 90% dems, pick 12 people and a couple are likely to be Republicans.

How he didn't disappear like Hoffa, still amazed, and talking just for not paying people what he owed, way before this fiasco of the last 6 years.
Who gets away with stiffing his lawyers and still gets new lawyers?
We really aint capable of evolving any more?

(646 posts)History will. And putting him on trial, leaving a trail of evidence and witnesses will help convict him for generations.

(9,435 posts)Because the rich and the popular can break laws and are untouchable.
Isn't that the main reason why Ukraine was trying to escape from Russian influence? Because the oligarchs were untouchable?
Meanwhile, we have SOME Democrats that want to surrender without firing a shot. No wonder the Deplorables think we are all cucks. If they are successful at stealing power, no one will do anything, because fighting is worse then living under a fascist dictatorship.

(110,950 posts)I think a lot of Republicans voted for Trump because they could never, ever, vote for a Democrat. That is how effective their political propaganda has become.

(1,452 posts)If this is Garland's thinking, then he should NEVER have accepted the job of AG. He knew this was going to be on his plate.
I would rather have seen Glenn Kirschner at the helm, but I don't think repukes would have confirmed him.

(3,976 posts)And further, even if he gets acquitted, could not a judge overturn given preponderance of overwhelming evidence?

(31,801 posts)In our system a judge can find a person not guilty if a jury finds them guilty but that is rare.

(6,993 posts)on that assumption. I want ALL the evidence presented to me the public. I want to watch thump and his clan squirm and sweat every day of the trial. I want every cheat, liar and traitor in his circle to be brought to justice and in some cases hung for treason. Can't stress this enough and every American should want the same. Damn it, where's the Tylenol.

(28,321 posts)I have my doubts about a jury. We're bound to find ourselves with at least one or two cult members. But when all is said and done, at least it was all presented fairly to the American citizens.
It's insulting to all of us not to do so.

(7,397 posts)I honestly dont think they have the backbone to indict him and have the circus of his trial potentially happening during the 2024 Presidential campaign season that starts in about 18 months.
Thats not what should happen but just what I think will happen.

(2,010 posts)If we can't bring him to justice for his multiple crimes against the United States, then maybe we can achieve justice by bringing him to trial for crimes against humanity, namely for how he was responsible for killing hundreds of thousands of Americans through downplaying the virus, among other irresponsible actions.
I want to see him have to sit in a courtroom and squirm as aggrieved families testify about how their Trump-humping family members were killed by COVID due to their trusting in Typhoid Trump and Fox News.
