A bill in Missouri makes illegal to get an abortion if the patient has an ectopic pregnancy.
Facts about ectopic pregnancies:
- Theyre are not viable. Full stop.
- Theyre the 1 cause of death for 1st trimester patients.
Heres the proposed law:

Summary:
The 20042008 Medicaid ectopic pregnancy rate for all 14 states combined was 1.40% of all reported pregnancies. Adjusted for age, the rate was 1.47%. Ectopic pregnancy incidence was 2.3 per 1,000 woman-years. In states for which longer term data were available (California, Illinois, and New York), the rate declined significantly in 20002008. In all 14 states, black women were more likely to experience an ectopic pregnancy compared with whites (relative risk, 1.46; 95% confidence interval, 1.451.47).
Conclusion(s)
Ectopic pregnancy remains an important health risk for women enrolled in Medicaid. Black women are at consistently higher risk than whites.

Just one of them:
Things that make you go, hmm. Kind of begs the question why was this clause added to the bill.

(2,635 posts)the Dominionist theology. They've only been working (quietly) in the background for the last 40 years... slowly making headway. Once GW got into office, they took off like wildfire, cause they had a "willing" ear. There have been many, many of us through the decades who have tried to spread the word about the terror they are trying to lay down on our heads. They are OUR Taliban, and it is Sharia law, under an Extremist Evangelical Christian bent. It is terrorism, pure and simple. But people won't listen cause "freedom of religion." But our freedom of religion is GONE once these guys finish capturing all their "mountains"... At that point, we'll be worse off than people in the Middle East. And I swear, that is NOT hyperbole.

(25,746 posts)An ectopic pregnancy is one that will NEVER result in the birth of a live infant. And it will always result in the death of the woman, if not removed surgically.
It really does go back to the basics: If you don't believe in abortion, then don't have one. Otherwise, do not attempt to force your medical ignorance on the rest of us.

(22,441 posts)I had an ectopic pregnancy. It was caught very early so they just took blood every other day and watched the pregnancy hormones drop - because it was aborting itself. But after several days the hormones leveled off so that is when they gave me a drug that would induce and abortion. For me it was Methotrexate. The Methotrexate kills the embryo.
It blows my mind that some people would just say "leave it alone and see what happens"
Fuck!

Deputize strangers, offer bounties, and now restrict women's free movement from state to state.
But white men are the real victims here. /s

Must are very gracious hosts who will invite me and my immediate family to dinner or vacation homes which is very kind. But they all have one thing in common, their all greedy and wouldnt give someone a nickel to help others. Most are narcissistic and if they do extend an invitation its to show off a newly decorated house or new car. While they believe they are good Christian people, the fact is almost all of them are racists and elitists who dont live by Christs example. And they are all gullible, conspiracy nuts who cling to Fox and Facebook to get their news. Very ignorant people.

(288 posts)This bill violates all ideas of human decency. They would put a woman's life in danger for their own twisted ideas. The fetus will die within a few weeks after implantation in the Fallopian tube before growing fetus causes the tube to rupture. When that happens the woman has only a very limited time to get emergency surgery to resolve the ruptured Fallopian tube before she hemorrhages and dies. I know because this happened to my wife and if she had not gotten to the ER in time to get emergency surgery she would have died. As it was, she required some significant recovery time.

(29,658 posts)It's all theater, sleight of hand. They get public attention and outrage over this then try to pass what they really want, such as overriding our vote against Right to Work. Most don't really care one way or another about abortion, though they talk a good game.
And if this passes? Lawsuits will fly everywhere. That's not a deterrent. Eric Schmidt, the AG, never met a lawsuit he didn't like. (He hasn't really won anything either, at least in the long term.) This will be fought in the courts and it will lose. It will be weaponized. They will all use this as an example of federal overreach, blame Biden/Pelosi/Harris/Obama/AOC and anyone named Clinton. They'll use it in political ads, play down the death angle, play up the "saving babies" angle and get campaign donations along with publicity. And they will leave Missouri taxpayers holding the bag for millions in court costs.
I live in Missouri. Pre Pandemic and health issues I was more in your face politically active. I was in Jeff City whenever I had a weekday off during session. I've had been to all the open to the public events. I know these assholes because I've dealt with them. Very few care about abortion one way or another and have actually said it in small groups. They use it to get what they want.

I was standing in line at the bank and all of a sudden felt this incredible pain
and fell to the floor. Someone called for an ambulance. I had no idea what
was going on. When I got to the hospital, a doc asked whether I could be
pregnant and I said no. So they put me on a bed and left me in the hallway.
About a half an hour later, I looked at my belly and it had expanded! I
screamed and pointed at my belly. They apparently realized that my belly
was full of blood.
Long story short, a tiny baby was stuck in my tube, the tube burst and I
was losing blood.
There is NO way to save a baby that's stuck in the tube.
I am damn lucky to be alive. F... these a...holes.
