A bill in Missouri makes illegal to get an abortion if the patient has an ectopic pregnancy.
Facts about ectopic pregnancies:
- Theyre are not viable. Full stop.
- Theyre the 1 cause of death for 1st trimester patients.
Heres the proposed law:

(149,615 posts)Once the Fallopian tube bursts, the embryo is dead.
And, unless quick measures are taken, the woman will bleed to death.
Does the agency promulgating this proposed law also want the woman to die?
I am sickened.

(21,458 posts)hemorrhage from an ectopic pregnancy can kill a woman.
A pregnancy outside of the uterus is already doomed to fail. Killing a woman along with the embryo is hardly pro life.

(21,458 posts)My only experience of it was second hand.
Many decades ago, before cell phones, I took an emergency call from the neighbor of my boss. His wife's tube had just burst from an undiagnosed ectopic pregnancy and the neighbor and wife were waiting for an ambulance. I could hear the wife in the background, in obvious pain.
The boss was out of the office, but in town somewhere. We called every place that he might be and finally tracked him down. His wife survived, and we heard some of the details later, which involved infection, hemorrhage, blood transfusions, and antibiotics.

Precisely for the reason that it absolutely invites, one could argue obligates, every court in the land (on up to the supremes) to overturn. And that is something that even the rockheads know is going to hurt them.

(29,674 posts)It's all about sleight of hand. They propose (and sometimes even pass) these bills, knowing they will get all the attention. In the meantime they're sliding in something sneaky, like attempting to pass Right to Work, even though it's been voted down.
Eric Schmidt, our AG, never met a lawsuit he didn't like. It gets him in the news and when this is overturned the GOP supermajority in Jeff City will blame Biden and claim the feds are overstepping their bounds. They'll get an influx of donations for their various campaigns and leave the taxpayers with the multi million dollar bill for defending this crap.
I live in Missouri. This is what they do.

.that they waste taxpayer money defending bullshit like this.
Indiana AG Todd Rokita is just like Schmidt. Grandstanding POS trying to shore up his street cred with the Right before he runs for governor. He was involved in a lot of legislation this year that the AGs office had no reason to be involved in, except for scoring political points with the base.

(16,396 posts)Remember the bill Ohio was trying to pass a while back that included some crazy language saying that any physician who performs an abortion to preserve the life of a pregnant person must take all possible steps to preserve the life of the fetus, including, if applicable, attempting to reimplant an ectopic pregnancy into the womans uterus.
Never mind that such a thing is medically impossible. Politicians who pass bills like that one and this Missouri one don't concern themselves with such irrelevancies as actual facts
As bad as that Ohio bill was, this one is like its (even more) evil twin. Both of these bills are saying "To hell with women--the only thing that counts is the fetus, or the embryo, or the fertilized freaking egg.
P.S. According to the Ohio state legislature website, the above mentioned bill hasn't passed, but it's evidently not dead either: https://www.legislature.ohio.gov/legislation/legislation-summary?id=GA133-HB-413

(16,396 posts)If they pass that piece of lunacy, the lawyers will have a field day dismantling it in court. A law that, in effect, imposes a death sentence on people with a specific medical condition, will get struck down so fast those legislators' heads will spin.

(22,656 posts)My college roommate almost bled to death with an ectopic pregnancy when her tube burst. I'm so glad I was there. She surely would be dead now if this draconian law existed then.
And the war on women and the people who love them, continues apace.
