https://www.texastribune.org/2022/03/10/texas-shelter-sex-trafficking-children/Seven children, ages 11 to 17, were victimized by nine alleged perpetrators, according to discussions held during an emergency court hearing called by U.S. District Judge Janis Jack on Thursday. The children remained in the facility for over a month after the abuse was first reported before they were removed.
The children were sexually and physically abused and suffered from neglectful supervision and medical neglect while at The Refuge, a facility located in Bastrop contracted by the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services, a current Refuge employee reported to state authorities on Jan. 24. The court and the court monitors watchdogs of the foster care system appointed by the judge were not notified until Thursday.
That employee said a former staff member sold nude photos of two children in the facilitys care, using the proceeds to purchase illegal drugs and alcohol that were then supplied to the children, according to a letter from DFPS filed on Thursday notifying the court about the incident. Local law enforcement and the Texas Department of Public Safety were immediately notified, according to the letter.
Has the governor seen it? Jack asked, referring to the letter. No one answered.

(11,728 posts)Abuse unfortunately happens in foster care settings everywhere. I have clinical supervision with staff from CPS who deal with kids in foster care who were being locked inside their room for hours, and recently a report of sexual abuse from one of the relatives of the foster family has come up.
People are messed up and government entities are sometimes slow to act, and sometimes create bad incentives that bring bad people into the system.
Republicans (especially in government), I will definitely say, are more likely to be ghoulish regarding these situations because they HATE money being spent on people who are "beneath" them.
The sad thing is that so many people seem to be okay with how Republicans govern (or don't).

(8,029 posts)I'm appalled at what has happened to the State. Strangely enough, I blame KKKarl Rove and GW Bush first and foremost.
Some of my long-term dyed in the wool republican family members will now vote only for democratic candidates. I wish the rest of the state would open their eyes.

(11,728 posts)He did Ann Richards DIRTY... I have always thought of Bush as more of a dumbass frat boy who "fell" into evil rather than being a mastermind. Or, perhaps he is one of the best evil masterminds hiding behind a façade of dumbassery.

(8,029 posts)the torturing wing of the military. KKKarl Rove is smart, and is still stealing elections in the wings for his old buddies. He figured out a LONG time ago how to mess with elections, and he's still helping his buddies in the party who haven't gone totally nazi.

I pray those children receive healing, compassion, and compensation!
Edit: I am glad to read that there has been an arrest. The system continues to fail our children.
