A senior Ukrainian official said that Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett told Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Tuesday that he should take Russian President Vladimir Putin’s proposal for ending the war. An official in the Israeli Prime Minster's Office denies the claim.

Why it matters: Bennett has emerged as a key mediator between Putin and Zelensky in the last two weeks. Israel has said it needs to remain neutral in the mediation, but the Ukrainian official told Axios that Bennett must present proposals and do more than act as a "mailbox" between the two sides.

Driving the news: The senior Ukrainian official claimed Bennett initiated the call on Tuesday and recommended Zelensky take the offer.

Zelensky and his advisers didn’t like Bennett’s recommendation, according to the Ukrainian official.
"Bennett is basically telling us to surrender and we have no intention of doing that," the senior Ukrainian official said.

Israel is denying this.

Apartheid refers to a political system where people are clearly divided based on race, gender, class or other such factors.

That shoe fits the Israeli System quite well, but we could use segregation if that’s less offensive.

That does not exist in Israel.

20% of Israelis are non-Jews, most of which are Arab Palestinians. There are Arabs on the Supreme Court, they have an entire political party in Parliament. They're under the same laws as Jews are.

How are they segregated? The Palestinians living in Gaza and the West Bank are not Israeli citizens. They elected their own governments, one of which is an actual terrorist group.

Why would they be protected by the same laws as the Palestinians who live in Israel?

by Palestinian leaders.

Do you really think Jews have no right to take their security seriously considering how often they're attacked?

Jews walking down the streets of Jerusalem have been stabbed multiple times in the past couple weeks by Palestinians.

Last week, a couple Palestinian teens were throwing bombs at Israelis.

Maybe if Palestinians didn't literally side with Hitler to exterminate Jews in the 1940s, and maybe if Palestinians didn't constantly launch terror attacks at Jews, and maybe if Palestinians didn't declare war on Jews multiple times, and maybe if Palestinians didn't literally elect a terrorist group as their government, Israel wouldn't need as much security as they have.

The State of Israel was literally created to protect Jews persecuted in the Holocaust, and all future Jews from persecution. Israel will do whatever it takes to make sure Jews are protected - that's why it exists.

Palestinians have officially stated their goal is to eradicate Israel and exterminate Jews. Why should Israel treat them like friends when they make those kinds of statements?

because Russia is currently preventing Syria and Assad from arming Hezbollah who are conducting terrorist attacks on Israel, and Russia has part of their military stationed on Israel's northern border.

keep advancing however slowly. If the Ukranians are ever able to launch a successful counter offensive on say the Kyiv front, then Putin will negotiate.

know why. Trump sealed the deal with Bibi giving Israel everything they wanted at the time and since Trump was Putin's man, the corrupt triumvirate sealed Ukraine's fate. Go back and see if you can search out anything about Israel re Georgia, the Crimea and now Ukraine. It's a deal sealed around Syria and Israel's expansion in the occupied territories. Wait for it. Israel should be ashamed.

A senior official in the Israeli Prime Minister’s Office said that the details of the call as described the Ukrainian official were not true.

The Israeli official said Bennett didn’t recommend that Zelensky take Putin’s offer because Israel hasn’t received such an offer. “The prime minister doesn’t intend to give Zelensky any recommendations or advice at any stage," the official said.

but never accept the first offer, is a "rule of thumb", yes?

The Russian demands go way too far, but is a baseline to begin negotiations.

Personally, if they would settle for a Ukranian promise not to join NATO in the future, i could accept that--- of course the condtions are not up to me, or the US, but up to Ukraine....

the rest of the long list of demands by Russia go too far, of course...
