Classified US Intelligence Chat Rooms a 'Dumpster Fire' of Hate Speech, Says Ex-NSA Contractor
'Many' spy agency employees say Jan. 6th riot 'was justified,' says NSA veteran

An internal U.S. intelligence messaging system became a “dumpster fire” of hate speech during the Trump administration, a veteran National Security Agency contractor says. And it’s “ongoing,” another Defense Department contractor tells SpyTalk.

Dan Gilmore, who was in charge of overseeing internal chat rooms for the Intelink system for over a decade starting in 2011, says that by late 2020 the system was afire with incendiary hate-filled commentary, especially on “eChirp,” the intelligence community’s clone of Twitter.

“I was the admin of this application and after a couple years, it became a dumpster fire,” Gilmore, a 30-year veteran of Navy and NSA cryptologic systems, wrote Thursday in an extraordinary public post on his own web site. “Professionalism was thrown out the window, and flame wars became routine.”

NSA did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

“Hate speech was running rampant on our applications,” wrote Gilmore, whose Identity and credentials have been vouched for by another Pentagon contractor. “I’m not being hyperbolic. Racist, homophobic, transphobic, Islamaphobic [sic], and misogynistic speech was being posted in many of our applications.”

Even more startling, Gilmore alleges, “there were many employees at CIA, DIA, NSA, and other IC agencies that openly stated that the January 6th terrorist attack on our Capitol was justified.”

Traitors will only be stopped by death.

And because people let these monsters get wrist slaps the hate and betrayal of this nation continues.

Traitors need to die as well as the main people supporting them and the ogliarches financing them

Conservatism is the problem because of its beliefs. Conservatism needs to be shown for what it is and not be tolerated anymore.

All thanks to one "man" and how he made these savages "not be afraid anymore."

It is not one man. This attitude derives from how our society is structured. One man gave approval for the attitude to come back out in to the open as you said, but if that attitude had not been baked into the American Pie, Trump would never have been elected.

Do you not realize that less than 100 years ago people were being lynched for being Black. Crosses were set ablaze on people's lawns to terrorize them.

Women couldn't vote until the 1920's.

Women were routinely put into psychiatric institutions for "disobeying" their husbands in the 1940's and 1950's. Women could not hold a credit card without their husband's consent.

Interracial marriage was illegal in some states until 1971.

This is not because of Trump. Trump gave permission from the highest office in the land for the attitudes to emerge from the shadows, BUT those attitudes have been there from the inception of this country where we threw off Monarchy but kept 4 million Black people in bondage until 1865 and then found different ways to keep them down until 1965, then just allowed the baked in culture to keep the down.

We need to realize the effects of White Male Supremacy on this country and ALL of us need to work to dismantle that system.

And that this country has a long, ugly history of bigotry. Bigotry I myself have experienced my entire life. But, it seems like things have been far more vicious and "in your face" since late 2015. Just as I had to spend four years hearing "Drumpf's president! We don't have to be afraid anymore!", coinciding with things getting more vicious and in our faces.

Hence why I call it Drumpfism.

No. He didn't create it. But he sure took the raging fire of bigotry and poured thousands of gallons of gas on top of it.

Thing is that we as an entire nation, need to face our past. Getting rid of Trump and pushing down his supporters, won't solve the problem because it can also be called Reaganism or Bushism. It is Conservatism. The belief that the natural order of the world is for certain people to be at the top of the pyramid and others at the bottom in subservient roles. That is the problem. We need to push for equal dignity and equal value for all people. People have to have enough to eat and we should be pushing for people to interact and get to know about different cultures. The resources of this planet have to be shared equitable and advancement of the human species should be the goal.

Until we acknowledge where it truly came from, we can stamp out those who pour gas on the fire, but we won't put out the fire.

The problem is we have 30-40% of this country who either refuse to face the past, or, look back on it and see it as an instruction manual. Many of them don't want equal value for all people - especially people who aren't like them. They never have, but, they're sure become more open about it over the last few years. And I wish I had some magic solution, but, it only seems like their beliefs and attitude have gotten uglier during that time frame.

Remember that we used to have lynching where people would take the family and have a picnic, and pose near the body of the person they lynched.

In the South, when a Black person was killed, no jury would ever convict. The fact that actual police officers are at least getting convicted is progress.

I think we see it as "worse" because during the late 70's through when Trump was elected, explicit racism had been repressed. As you have said, Trump (but really it was the election of President Obama) brought the overt stuff back out into the open.

One thing you can always count on is Conservatives will overreach.

This is why it is important to fight back against those idiots attacking CRT and the 1619 project. They are loud right now but they are not invincible.

1619, the anti-CRT stuff, what we are watching happening in Texas and Idaho and other states, the "Big Lie"/"Stop the Steal", voter suppression...

Because if these people aren't stopped, examples like what you posted here will become reality once again.

I think that's what has me so damned upset with all of it. We all know the saying "Those who do not remember the past are condemned to repeat it." That's bad enough. But a significant number of people in this country remember the past and want to repeat it.

I don't think the younger generations understand or truly realize what can happen... and that we're on the road currently towards it happening.

Those of us women who are 60+ should remember well those days when we couldn't have a credit card in our name, nor a bank account. Nor could we buy or hold property in our name. Crap, here in KS, in the 80's, I had to have my husband notarize a notice giving me the okay to license our car at the DMV!

I remember who swaths of job types and career fields being denied women because they could cause harm to an unborn child. This, even if childbearing was not on the menu for the woman at all, for whatever reason. And if you were too old to have a child, you were basically treated as worthless.

To escape this, I went into a newly opened field to women in the military. But even being Active Duty didn't give me any privileges in the private world. When we bought our first house, my husband's name was on the title, but not mine as owner.

This is the world we lived in... where abortions were performed in back alleys and basements. Where if you married outside your race, you kept to your house and weren't seen in town together, yet you were gossiped about endlessly. We've talked to our kids and grandkids about this, but they haven't lived it. I don't think they can envision what it means to live like that; or that it can so readily happen to them. Lack of imagination? I don't know. I only know my own daughter doesn't exhibit the kind of concern that I'd expect to see from her at this point on the road to oblivion. (sigh)

Everything that was fought for and paid with blood from the Labor movement, to the Women's Rights movement, to the Civil Rights movements for Black people, Latinos, LGBTQ, etc... has shown some improvement and so younger people do not have a sense of what things were like before those movements moved the flag further, and that is the scary thing.

The Labor movement is basically a shell of what it was. People do not understand that having the weekend off and child labor were not too long ago. Company towns never really left, but are making a MAJOR comeback.

The rights of women and minorities are being eroded because they have all "gone too far". It is sad and scary.

by a white farmer using a car. See, the monster who did this did it because he wanted my ggrandfather's land that he worked hard for. That thing purposely ran him down and backed over him & this happened in the late 20's, early 30's. My great uncle, (God rest him soul), was a 9 y.o. boy who witnessed it. This bloody murderer actually went to that sweet little traumatised boy, (the baby of the family), grabbed him by the collar and said this: "you lil' darkie, you keep your black mouth shut! If you say ANYTHING about what happened here, I come back & do the same thing all you n&%$ers, everyone of you from your mammy, (& yes, he actually said this) to your black ass."

That poor child was so traumatised that he dealt with CPTSD for the rest of his life. BTW, this happened in NC.

On my mother's side, her mom's family had the "Night Riders" come after them with plans to lynch them because as we all know, "N&ggers don't deserve anything nice", (Yes, this is what he found out about people GGrandpa Gowans was told afterward). Someone dropped a dime on the KKK, telling my GGrandpa what was planned and when. Greatpa Gowans was waiting for in the HUGE oaks along with his 7 sons & a few other male cousins with guns loaded with rock salt. when the idiots showed up, they let the night riders have it.
the next day. Greatpa Gowans went into town to report this and guess what? When he got into town, he saw the preacher, the police officer, the feed store owner, the SHERIFF, the mayor, etc & ad nauseum limping, in badages, splints, etc. Oh yeah, my greatpa was IRISH and married to my Greatma who was black as a moonless night.
He was SO pissed off because he played checkers and dominoes with these people. found out that they called him a "WHITE N%#@GER" in addition to N&%^er Lover. Not suprised completely because the Irish weren't considered to be white.

The night Obama was elected, my uncle and I were on the phone and he told me that the first time he voted was in California, once he joined the Navy because had he tried to vote in South Carolina, he would have been killed. Lynching is STILL a thing, trust me.

According to my own experience, when the loudmouthed bullies move in, normal chatters shrug and move out, meeting elsewhere or not meeting at all, hoping the bullies run out of air, keel over, and die. It's usually a sound strategy, with no one left to "pwn," the bullies move on, themselves. Dittoing each other gets boring fast.

And what I want to know is why a message board where sensitive information might be discussed wasn't moderated.
