TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) Disney World is suspending its political donations in Florida after the companys CEO received huge blowback for not using Disney's vast influence in the state to try to quash a recently passed Republican bill that would prevent teachers from instructing early grades on LGBTQ issues.
Shortly after, Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis accused the company of being friendly with communist China.
Democratic state Rep. Anna Eskamani tweeted screenshots from an email Disney CEO Bob Chapek sent to employees saying the company was wrong to stay silent on the issue before the Republican-dominated Legislature passed what opponents have dubbed the Don't Say Gay bill.
Chapek said the bill was a challenge to human rights and apologized. Meanwhile, DeSantis sent a campaign fundraising email that said, Disney is in far too deep with the Communist Party of China and has lost any moral authority to tell you what to do.

His comments come amid internal complaints that "gay affection" is routinely cut from some Disney films.
The so-called 'Don't Say Gay' bill is due to become law.
It bans discussions of sexual orientation and gender identity from kindergarten to third grade classes (aged 8-9) or when "not age appropriate or developmentally appropriate for students in accordance with state standards".
Formally known as the Parental Rights in Education bill, it also allows private citizens to sue and seek unspecified damages if they believe a school district has violated the law.

Well, theyre through the gates, and we need to do something now. I just dont understand why we dont go on the offensive against these mounting offensives to human rights.

(15,188 posts)Disney will be "outraged" at Desantis and the Retrumplicans for about a long as those Georgia corporate giants stopped funding Retrumplicans that Jim Crowed Georgia.
Look, it's pretty fucking simple
Nothing will change. The fascism, racism, hatred, misogyny and white supremacy...NONE OF IT... will change, unless and until we make fascism, racism, hatred, misogyny and white supremacy unprofitable for the corporations and businesses that fund it.
Disney and other businesses should be boycotted until they stop funding hate, and then boycotted for another 6 month just for punitive damages.
