ok..but his mea culpa is only because he's not running again...'in hindsight", "if I could go back"...give me a break!...Trump's quid pro quo was overt and Kinzinger knew it but he was afraid to buck the party..when he needed to speak out he stayed silent and Trump walked...we Dems have a habit of praising Republicans when they show a scintilla of conscience but neither Kinzinger nor Liz Cheney voted to impeach the first time...shame on them...

(37,153 posts)...he complains about the worst of Trump and RW extremism while studiously peppering it with "both sides" slags at Democrats, liberals and lefties.
Oh, and getting very testy if someone mentions that this extremism didn't start with Trump and that it's been building for his entire career.

(40,184 posts)that he is a decent man. Do I find his conservative politics abhorrent? Yes, I do. So that is a bit of a conundrum. His political views suck, but hes an ok guy. I need to figure how that can be.

(7,804 posts)OMG Trump is a lying thieving sonofabitch...how did I not see this???...Adam, sweetie, your mea culpa is bullshit...
ProfessorGAC
(64,827 posts)He actually never liked TFG. But, his ambition made him get on the train to raise his profile in the party.
It was only after the lies about the election and 1/6 that he couldn't go along anymore.
That's awfully tolerant of crazy for a long time.
But, he is our rep & I've spoken to him. His beliefs in economics are rotten & he's against plenty of things I'm for. But,...
He never wanted TFG or the skum in his wake. Just didn't summon the courage to say so until all hell broke loose.

when he voted against eliminating the filibuster regarding the John Lewis Voting Rights Bill?.. or how about voting for Trump in the 2020 election?...what about his 90% party line vote?...and then there's his tax cut aye vote...does he regret any of those votes?... Adam's woulda coulda shoulda lament rings hollow...
ProfessorGAC
(64,827 posts)He's an R, through& through.
The big lie & 1/6 were a bridge too far even for him.
But, he's light years from being a liberal, and several AUs from being a moderate.

(7,804 posts)separating families, babies in cages, the wall, overt racial/antisemitic/LGBTQ hatred, embracing nazis (good people..), the muslim ban, teargassing peaceful protestors, marginalizing asians/native Americans/the poor/the elderly, ignoring an devastating oncoming pandemic, disappearing scientists and medical experts in favor of quacks and know-nothings, 900,000 lives lost...all ok...Trump not accepting defeat and inciting a seditious riot...a bridge too far..not ok...Kinzinger may be a good guy, but his sanctimonious self-pity is pathetic...

(64,827 posts)He's an ok guy in personal life.
His politics are horrendous.
He has family members far worse!

(7,804 posts)I've had it with congressmen/women who have seen the light only after a Trump-incited storming of the Capital and the near dissolution of our democracy...Liz Cheney, Mitt Romney, Adam Kinzinger, Lisa Murkowski...the supposed "good guys"...not so much

(9,223 posts)I remember him from the 80's... he'd do anything to get attention and get noticed.
It was all facade (which wasn't that great) and no substance. It was OBVIOUS to me! How could anyone not see it? It was laughable.
Now, all these years later, I still wonder... How does anyone find him credible and fall for his schtick?
But they do...

But hes obviously doing some introspection.
