His plan addresses a number of issues from education to a national voter ID law to immigration, laying out what Republicans will do if they win later this year. Included in the framework are several steps to address the economy and government spending, but one line in particular has come under fire.
"All Americans should pay some income tax to have skin in the game, even if a small amount," the plan states. "Currently over half of Americans pay no income tax."
"Senator Rick Scott explains the Republican plan to raise taxes on more than half of Americans," tweeted Democratic Majority Leader Chuck Schumer. "He wants working families and seniors to pay more."

"Skin in the game"; rationing insulin or bankruptcy from medical bills aren't games, Ricky.

McConnell is denying that this is part of the Republican agenda, however it sounds suspiciously like what little Madison Cawthorn was spouting in his video game video which I can't seem to find.

How puzzling Republicans never want to tax wealth??
Higher levy on the peasants cause the gilded aristocrats, as always, need to feed the Army, and protect their gold hordes from being raided.
Nothing new under the Sun, except the legalized corruption in America, thats fairly new.

(18,903 posts)It burns my ass every time they say voters in "the heartland" pay too much in taxes.
"The heartland" (rural red states) take far more in federal tax money than they ever pay in. "The Heartland" of the U.S.A. is the coastal states. That's where the federal tax base - the heart of the country - is located.
You hit a nerve with me there, modrepub. I've been batching about this for years.

(17,781 posts)have to choose between food, medical care or a roof over their heads because they can't have all three this month. Three things Scott (Jackass-FL) doesn't worry about for a second. Forget income tax. If you really want to fuck the bottom 50%, how about a national sales tax!!!! Maybe I shouldn't give Rick "The largest Medicare fraud in history" Scott any ideas.
Why, Florida. Why do you keep electing these lunatics?

The state has 16 billionaires, half of whom are corrupt and stupid, play footsies with Russian gangsters and launder money through the state like the river of grass here. And that's just the economics. We all know this is why Trump chose Florida as his foreign agent habitat.
I'm 73 now, and have seen Florida's Democrats struggle against misinformation, intimidation and cheating in this state since I was a kid. Of course the latest districting map disenfranchises minorities here. Statehouse Democratic leaders say the map should never have been allowed to leave the building, yet DeSantis wants to put media and Floridians through his good cop-bad cop drama.
I'd love to blame Florida for Rick Scott, because that would mean it's a functioning free and fair election state, but the structural rigging of 51% repeated wins is more probable.
You ask Florida why? For the same reason Floridians were cheated out of Al Gore in 2000. Notice that Florida hasn't had an election audit since. If you think Democrats' votes are counted correctly here, you haven't see the pattern of dishonesty with numbers -- e.g., covid -- since 2000.

I was skinned for my entire working career.
Now that I'm retired, poor, and in poor health, the bargain with the government was that I wasn't going to be skinned as if I were still earning a significant income.
You shouldn't change the rules of the game after the point in life where people have the resources to cope with your rules changes.

(10,072 posts)Tennessee has no income tax.
But back in the early 2000, Gov. Don Sundquist seriously proposed a state income tax. Well, all hell broke loose. People were picketing the capital and the GOP did really badly in elections for a couple of years after that.
Democratic leaders really need to spread the word about this increase tax that the GOP wants. Most GOPers don't want more taxes even for themselves.
