My wife informed me that we would be buying a new dishwasher. She's not satisfied with how our current one washes her coffee cups. So, we went to Lowe's this morning. I warned her that it might take some time to actually get one and have it installed, based on my recent experiences with buying a washer and a range before selling our previous house.
Surprise! Lowe's had a number of dishwasher models in stock at the local store. So we bought one and paid for the installation. The installer will deliver the new one and haul off the "leaves the inside of the coffee cups stained" one we currently have. It will get installed next week. And it wasn't just the expensive ones that were in stock. The contractor grade dishwashers were also available. That's good, because they have simpler controls and fewer features we would never use.
Now, I can install a dishwasher, and have done so in the past. However, at 76 years of age, getting down on the floor is much easier than getting back up again, so I'm going to pay someone younger to install the thing.
I asked the appliance person about the supply chain thing. She said that they have far more appliances in stock now than in recent months, so I guess things are getting better. That's good to know.

(146,192 posts)I try to buy stuff that is in stock, whatever it is. I'm not paying for something that doesn't exist except in a product listing. Nope.

(15,073 posts)I also bought a dishwasher recentlybought it on Saturday, had it installed by Tuesday. Weve had problems getting cat food and bottled iced tea, but they seem to suddenly be back in stock. Lunchmeat is still slim pickings. Yellow onions and shredded coconut seem in short supply lately. All in all, weve been spoiled by having everything available all the time, so a shortage here and there is probably good for the moral fiber.

(4,527 posts)You may want to suggest to your wife to try and clean the stained coffee cup by hand, first. The new washer probably wont get the layers of stain off as easy as she wants.
Pour some baking soda to cover the bottom and sides of the water dampened mug. Then carefully pour white vinegar into the the cup. Probably good to do this over the sink. The liquid will foam up. It helps to dislodge the stains. Then, when it settles down, scrub the mug with a non-metal scrubber. Repeat as needed. If that doesn't work, use CLR. That stuff works miracles on my tea stained mugs and teaspoons.
Enjoy your new dishwasher!
Ours died a few years ago and we didnt replace. We use the space for undercounter storage!
Since its just hubby and I, I just do the dishes by hand.
