Russias invasion of Ukraine has prompted some of Americas most prominent evangelical leaders to raise a provocative question asking if the world is now in the biblically prophesied end of days that might culminate with the apocalypse and the second coming of Christ.
Theres no consensus on the answer, nor on any possible timetable.
Megachurch pastor Robert Jeffress, addressing his congregation at First Baptist Dallas, said many Christians are wondering, in the face of carnage in Ukraine, Why does God permit evil like this to continue?
. Are we near Armageddon and the end of the world?
We are living in the last days, Jeffress said, Weve been living in the last days for the last 2000 years. We dont know, is this the end? Is this the beginning of the end, or the end of the beginning?

(82,383 posts)How can this be provocative? Everything is a sign that the end of the world is coming.
That was the point of the Bible. It flat out says it could be any time. It describes a state of the world that is pretty much always the state of the world. Trolled by the Bible writers!

God does not exist, especially as you conceive of God.

No. It is always thus.

That is also why they deny climate change...we can't destroy ourselves. If we can destroy ourselves they don't get their eternal life.

(81,073 posts)You can say, well, Putins out of his mind. Yes, maybe so, Robertson said. But at the same time, hes being compelled by God. He went into the Ukraine, but that wasnt his goal. His goal was to move against Israel, ultimately.
Its all there, added Robertson, referring to Ezekiel. And God is getting ready to do something amazing and that will be fulfilled.

(21,859 posts)wonder membership rosters at these churches and doomsday cults are dropping in membership numbers. They have preached the End of Days since the year 1000 arrived (and probably before too), and preach like some DU posters have said in this trend, every time there's a war, that there's some kind of event or conflict, etc. What is even sadder is that their members of their congregations believe it too, sell their houses, quit their jobs, and move to an isolated area where they'll be safer supposedly.
Imagine their surprise when the Day of Doom comes and goes, all w/o anything, nothing, zippo, nada happening.
I'm surprised that I don't hear anything of these people suing the pastors involved in such underhanded techniques to simply drum up church donations etc. (which I bet a lot of these creeps put in their own pockets).
What really gets me is that Jesus said himself that he didn't even know when this event, the End of Days would happen, would occur, if ever perhaps.
These people will use any method to score a trick off their unsuspecting marks, sort of like tRump is doing w/ his perpetual begging for money, from a $billionaire no less.

It's been 2,000 years now since they all died.
Jesus did *NOT* come back.

(21,859 posts)how many tens of millions of words did Jesus, and his followers actually preach or say?
It just seems that so much of has been supposedly said, has been distorted by the sheer passage of time, by the mistranslation of words and what they were truly meant to convey (the original thought of what was said, etc.)?

(14,483 posts)In many ways, culture wars are just as bad as military wars except misdirected religion kills and maims slowly like cancer.
Just look at some of their attitudes toward vaccines and abortion and how many held mass services at the peak of the pandemic.
We have preachers saying that end times shit every time there's a war.......
