If Russia manages to grind out a victory (even if it takes fifty times longer than expected), and if the world essentially breaks ranks and nations decide to drop sanctions because "What happened is a shame, but it's over, and now our economy is being hurt," then China will have been given the green light.

If Putin gets away with it, weathers the sanctions, and turns the PR around, China might proceed on Taiwan at some point in the future.
