In terms of Nebraska history, it doesnt get more high-profile than to have a congressman on trial for three felonies while hes running a reelection campaign.
Historic. Climactic. Dramatic? Thats left to be seen.
Certainly, the result will be dramatic, as U.S. Rep. Jeff Fortenberry, Nebraskas 1st District congressman, fights for his political, electoral and reputational life. In the past century, Nebraska has seen other high-profile elected officials face felonies, including a Nebraska attorney general in 1984.
As a sitting U.S. congressman, Fortenberry takes that potential ignominy to a new level.

(32,081 posts)But, then I look at Rick Scott, who perpetrated the worst Medicare fraud in our country's history, yet still got elected Governor, and then Senator. Being a criminal is okay if you are a Republican. I hope the people of Nebraska will prove me wrong here, but but I have my doubts.
What's worse is that Fortenberry is just the tip of the ice berg when it comes to taking foreign money. And, that a bunch of those have been taking it from Putin an his cronies. Looking at you Moscow 8, Mitch McConnell, Lindsey Graham...

(17,536 posts)was raised by his opponent, but the state's Republican voters considered his actions, "just good business" and elected him partially based on brilliance that make him a multimillionaire. Small time criminals go to jail, the really big crooks go to into national politics.
