I'd give 80-20 odds that it's genuinely a Russian soldier who tried to desert, got caught, chained to a post, and left for dead in the bitter cold. Or, his comrades who knew he was chained there, and intended to come back for him, ended up getting killed themselves.

At this point I think the Ukrainians are far more interested in the actual killing than the propaganda about it
