I just watched a CNN clip posted on DU and they "announced" there is humanitarian aid on its way to Mariupol.
They said it was 2 hours away. None of us need to know that! Report on them getting the aid, not before.
Wow, that would be juicy intel for Russians.

(102,141 posts)the Ukrainians. I know some of it is pretty obvious, but they are so matter-of-fact about it, that I find it alarming and really hard to listen to. There is a fine-line and most of them seem to be trying to be very professional, but I find it often disturbing and sometimes questionable.

(7,611 posts)In the OSINT community a lot of people won't show much video of Ukraine troops or lost equipment for that reason though.

(7,363 posts)with my example of humanitarian aid coming in "2-hours", couldn't they just wait until they had it???
I know you and I can't do anything about it though.

(3,491 posts)if providing Ukraine with any information?!?
I suspect the information our News networks are providing, which is limited by the number of folks on the ground and other logistical issues (ducking bombs), is of much poorer quality than what's being shared through back channels with Ukraine.
TBH, there's an abundance of misinformation out there meant to confuse the other side's opponents. Don't take anything too seriously. If you have to believe anything, then believe whichever side is providing live or near live video from Kyiv. The rest is just noise.

(70,652 posts)plus all the Yakking Heads of retired "experts" and plain non-experts armchair quarterbacking. It's like a fast track to becoming ungovernable, with every individual claiming to run everything from each individual head.
The Romans knew they had to manage the mass population by keeping them fed (bread), conquering to import foodstuff for the Roman one million population, and distractions/entertainment (circuses), the gladiator games and hundreds of holidays per year - all towards the goal of keeping the order stable: "Don't bother your pretty little heads about what goes on at the top - leave that to the main players up there." - in our case the circuses being the NFL/NBA and the bread being the price of gasoline.
There was a video somewhere of pre/post WW II in Italy, with interviews of people focusing on their personal daily lifes, apathetic about being involved in issues, blase about whatever "news" of corruption or even of accomplishment - like, with their thousands of years of history they've seen it all - the rise and fall of "great" individuals and cities, all facets of human virtues, flaws, vices. Such that they put all that aside to focus on their couple of city blocks, neighborhood, grocery store, nothing bigger.
But we're disintegrating the other way with each individual being a quarterback and no team.

(13,168 posts)They routinely ask Ukrainians on air, "How long do you think you'll be able to hold out? Where are the Russians coming from? Do you have enough food and medical supplies?" And a lot of times, the people give answers.
I've heard Russian communications with their forces are very bad, so I at least hope they don't get CNN.

(8,318 posts)There is a reason the the CIA exists. It is for reasons such as this. We lost a generation of cold worriers as the focus was turned to the Middle East, but now the expertise is needed back where is was from the late 40s to the mid 90s.
The CIA had a very strong understanding of and ability to prosecute a proxy war against the Soviets in Afghanistan in large part because of the secrecy of it. If we, the Pols and other Nato countries were capable of any opsec at all, the Polish Aircraft would be in Ukraine today. We would be developing supply routs for arms and munitions and a program to get people in and out of the country. Instead we have everything splashed all over the news.
There is a point that the professionals need to be able to do what they do without people needing to talk so much about it.
I am sick for the people of Ukraine, we have people who are trained and have the ability to work this situation. We have to let them
