One of the world's deadliest snipers leaves Canada to fight in Ukraine

Aformer sniper from the Royal 22nd Regiment of the Canadian Army arrived in Ukraine earlier this week to help the country defend itself against Russian forces, according to CBC.

While fighting in the Afghanistan War, he was known simply as Wali, one of the deadliest snipers in the world. He and three other former Canadian soldiers left Poland for Ukraine on March 2 after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky called for volunteers to help fight on March 1.

Upon arriving in Ukraine, Wali told CBC that he and the other soldiers received a warm welcome.

"They were so happy to have us," Wali said. "It's like we were friends right away."

during WWII, that people who were brave and fearless in the face of shelling or hand to hand combat, would be in terrible dread when a sniper was plying his craft in the neighborhood. It is as much a weapon of terror as anything, and very effective.

Years ago, I dated a guy who was a former sniper in the Viet Nam war. One of the best.

He was severely scarred by the experience, and never adjusted to life back home. It's hard to undo something that you trained for, excelled at, and were rewarded for. There was nothing he could do back home that came close to his excellence as a killer. And it destroyed him.

I hope that this man can save others with his lethal skills.

If I were superstitious, I might blame karma. It takes a unique individual to look into a person's face and calmly and coolly blow that face away. It goes against what most of us think of as honorable and noble, but alas, c'est la guerre. The Russians that die will have decided their own fate by following the wrong tyrant.

One minute a Russian officer is drinking a cup of coffee and talking and then he will be dead.
May this guy's aim be true and I hope all 4 get back home alive.

And I am glad he has decided to fight for the Ukrainians. If only he could somehow hone in on Putin, but that sniveling little coward won't leave the safety of his confines.

WW2 snipers could be effective on a fairly regular basis to as much as 500 meters or so. When he's said to have a "kill distance" of 2 miles, I suspect they're merely citing the longest sniper kill ever recorded (Iraq, 2017) which was at 3.5 kilometers by a Canadian sniper. While this might be the same man, Wikipedia simply says "name withheld".
